Jeez, I wanted to take a shot at him, but that's a lot of dough (and years) for a guy that proved nothing in his brief stint with the Leafs a few years back.

Komarov left for more money in Russia. Toronto would have kept him. This is the result of salary competition between the leagues.
It is a lot though. Expected a million less.

Not true at all. He was the one who wanted to go to KHL.

Glad Komarov is back on the Leafs. Money is too steep though.

kamarov is very similar to bouma. hits more, less offense (bouma didn't light it up but he had his share of chances this past season).
However, 3 million bucks for a 4th liner. I don't care how could a 4th liner he is, but that is ridiculous. Did nonis not learn a damn thing from overpaying for a 3rd liner last offseason.
Nonis has always shown the lack of stones to make the big trades when needed (biggest downfall with the nucks when he was there) and he overcompensated by being too thoughtless when it comes to free agents.
I doubt nonis survives a full calendar year as the leafs gm.

Komarov is an awesome role player. I would have loved him in in Flames, maybe a million less, but this is not an awful contract, pretty good actually.

This contract is nearly as bad as the Engelland one. Maybe worse because it is 4 years instead of 3.

Komarov is not a 4th line player, he led his KHL team in points. He also played on the Finish Olympic team. Excellend 3rd line player, maybe too much, but I guessed 2-2.5

The Leafs missed Komorov bad. Both Komorov+Frattin were two of their best possession players. That one of the big reasons they brought them back.

Komarov left NHL because of lack of ice time, he wanted to play more, that's why he went to KHL, asaik.

Sure, he wanted to make the olympic team and thought he'd have a better chance from the KHL. He was probably right. However, the money was a lot better too.
Sounds like Toronto is trying to recreate the mentality they had a season ago, which partly explains why they're paying so much for Komarov. He contributes to a more positive outlook on the ice and the locker room likes him. I don't know if it's slightly naive to expect one or two players to help them get back something that was lost, but we'll see.
