I guess Oilers pro scouting amounts to watching the playoffs? Pouliot was okay for the Rangers but man that's a lot of money for a depth player.

Great players to fill the voids in Edmonton. Definitely paid more and for longer term, but that's what you have to do when you're perennially "no good".

Fayne looks like a decent deal but that Pouliot deal is awful.
Still think the Edmonton defense is pretty weak even with the two recent additions.

Great deal on Fayne, Terrible deal on Puliot.

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie
Fayne 57.6 Corsi but 47.2 when not on with Andy Greene

This is the thing - be interested to see if it translates
But I believe Green's numbers are similar without Fayne. Might be just one of those pairings.
EDIT: Was wrong - Greene's numbers still excellent without Fayne

I love how the Oil just pay players what they hope they will be worth.

It will be very interesting to see how he performs (possession-wise) on a much poorer possession team, without Greene. As reference, Gio and Brodie were 47.4 and 46.7 percent respectively when apart.

They've had several signing over the last couple season of guys that were supposed to play like Fayne and not panned out because of the terrible team play and defensive zone awareness. I openly wonder if Fayne will look much worse in Edmonton than New Jersey.

Fayne was a good deal, the Oilers desperately needed a defenseman. They will most likely be trying to trade Pouliot in 2 to 3 years.

I'm beginning to wonder if Katz is trying to pull the same kind of thing from that movie Major Leagues, by fielding a team so bad that they move.
These are the two worst signings since Finger

Yeah Greene in particular but NJD in general. Signing a former Devils D is like signing a Phoenix goalie. Can't be sure how much of it is team-driven. Still okay with the signing for them though, worthwhile risk to take.

Soft forward who earns a big payday from one decent playoff run. This is Fernando Pisani 2.0 for the Oilers

Don't forget the million backbreaking dumbass penalties Pouliot kept taking in the playoffs. He had a few miserable games where he was stapled to the bench for long stretches.

It's says a lot about their management that they acknowledge that they are so bad that they need to pre-plan to overpay at the onset of free agency for average to depth players.

Mark my words, Fayne is going to be another Garrison or Clarkson level signing.
