Not sure how to do it on here, but that message was followed by three fists.

Third round draft picks don't make or break an entire team. If Bollig plays 200 games for us then this trade is fine. We simply have to protect our young assets and that's what this trade is. Monahan, Bennett and Gaudreau are potential cornerstones of this team for the next decade. Maybe we could have hit the jackpot and got a future letter wearing top line player but protecting our assets is worth it.

Anyone who thinks Bollig is a goon has zero ability in assessing NHL talent. I wouldn't put much weight in how they value this or any trade

Couldn't agree more.

We got an 82 game roster player from an elite team for 3rd rounder. I am surprised at how many critics there are with this trade. Its a good trade. Heck, we got a 2nd round pick for a subpar back up goalie.

Well, if everyone agrees, what fun is that? Sometimes things are boring and drama is fun.

Looks like a solid trade, will take someone that plays 82 games a year with Blackhawks over a 10% chance guy, plus someone needs to protect Gaudreau.

Dallas drafts Aaron Haydon with the pick we gave up for MacDermid. This is exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm going to say it one more time, because I think it's really important:
We have a lot of young guys, and small to smallerish guys on the team and in the pipes. They need to be protected. If this guy can help keep Johnny Hockey afloat on the ice, then I would make it rain 3rd round picks.

Love the trade. He is a big guy who can skate. Played a bit on the PP with the Hawks. Fourth line on the hawks probably means he can play anywhere on the bottom 6 in Calgary with some of the younger guys.

Ok. They drafted a prospect with a pick. Very interesting.

Bollig had tougher zone starts against better competition than Dorsett and Westgarth:

You mean Chris Simon with 305 career points in 782 career games? At the rate Bollig is going at, he'll be lucky to have the career Chris Dingman had (played 74 games the year Tampa won the Cup).

Seriously Bollig does not have 2nd or 3rd line upside like Simon did around the same age. Westgarth is probably a more appropriate comparison for Bollig's potential upside.

Id definitely put Bollig between Simon and Westgarth.

Not as good as Simon, but better then Westgarth.

Players under 25 that I can think off the top of my head that I think are at least decent prospects:

Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, Baertschi, Poirier, Klimchuk, Granlund, Reihhart, Arnold, Agostino, Hanowski, Wolf, Van Brabant, Knight, Bouma, Colborne, Byron, Ferland, Jankowski, Smith

Brodie, Wotherspoon, Sieloff, Kulak, Culkin, Kanzig, Rafikov, Roy, Billins, Breen, Ramage, Cundari, Hickey

 Ortio, Gillies, McDonald

That was 36 names off the top of my head. Is adding another Rafikov-level prospect really that key to the rebuild?

Spending a late 3rd on a guy who is a decent NHLer who hits everything in sight, is good in the room, will help protect all these young kids, and helps in the continued establishment of making the Flames a tough team to play against seems like a good investment to me.
