Well said. Everyone makes fun of the oilers rebuild but some want to follow that path? I don't get it. It's a weak 3rd round pick we lost ffs

In terms of point production maybe, but they protect our young assets and allow them to develop without fear. Worth every penny, I hope Bollig puts on 5 pounds and learns a little from Mcgrattan. Last year the 4th line guys would talk to the other teams before the game started and the lack of response was telling.
Monahan getting 20 goals can in part be attributed to our 4th line because the other teams were too afraid to really go after him. Bollig will play more games than this 3rd rounder will most likely and help keep Johnny on the ice.

Every time I read one of your posts, I think back to an old saying:
"The wise man speaks because he has something to say. The fool speaks because he has to say something."
And you, Ashasx, are not the wise man. You come in and basically moon threads up with your whining and crying, and far too often derail threads. I'd call you a troll if I didn't believe you have legitimately fooled yourself into believing you are smarter than everyone else.

203 hits last year. Flames' best was Bouma with 181.

You know what proves it?
Actually watching hockey games ....its called the eyeball test...sorry there isnt a corsi for that, but it entirely and completely exists.
The LA Kings just won a SC for the second time in 3 years with guys just like Bollig on thei roster..
so now...whats the next objection?

other people do doesn't mean they are "drinking the koolaid" maybe some people realize what percentage of 3rd round picks end up being NHLers. Do some research. This guy played 82 games/10 mins a night for one of the best teams in the league, more than most 3rd rounders

I am pretty neutral on trade but it's a late third round pick. Value wise - it's fine. A fourth would have been better but we didn't have one and it would have been less than 10 spots different even if we did.

We already had McGrattan and Wolf signed for next season. One we know is a terrible hockey player, the other will likely be the same.
We didn't need to waste an asset on somebody like Bollig. It's terrible asset management.
People can say "oh it's only a 3rd rounder", but that's such a frivolous way to think of the draft. We drafted Gaudreau in the middle of the 4th round, the Calder runner up was drafted in the 7th.
The draft is won in rounds 2-7, and the Flames don't seem to understand that.

Galiardi put up respectable numbers on the Sharks. How many people thought his numbers would fall off a cliff when he started to get more minutes with the Flames?

I don't think are questioning the value of adding someone who can bring additional toughness to a team...guys like a Prust or a Bouma are definitely of value.
The question is whether a rebuilding team should be trading away draft picks for 4 line pluggers.
What is hilarious about this thread is that the supporters of this trade saying what a good deal it is...
Care to guess how Bollig ended up with the Hawks?
Undrafted free agent.

And as fans we should be careful to describe him as a 4th line grinder who fights, rather than a fighter.
the Pl3 and Simon spectrum, should be replaced with Eric nystrom, colin fraser, prust, weise, moen, jordan nolan, clifford

Ashasx is just upset because Bollig is talking the 4th LW spot away from Sven.

Truclence and moon jokes. Old.
Not a huge fan of the trade or the player. But he is better than Westgarth. He played 10 minutes a night on one of the best teams in the NHL. He is young and cheap. Not worth any panty twisting.

I love the logic of some fans.
"I think a later pick could have hot him" - so you assume Treliving's didn't offer a later pick to begin with?
"I don't think it's smart to draft goalies in the 2nd, just pick one in the 6th" - ...and draft a significantly worse prospect?
"That player is big, he's a goon/fighter at best" - because size dictates hockey skill?
...people just love to be negative.
There's a lot of positivity around our organization right now...how about you try smiling for once?
