Similar to Gillies, but catches with his right hand – makes for a nice contrast to have one of the rare southpaws between the pipes. His stats weren't impressive this season, but he's young and seems to have really impressed the scouts.

If we were going to pick a goalie in the 2nd round I was hoping it would be this guy. Demko did not impress me at all for Boston College, despite the good stats. Seems like a choker to me; perfect for the Canuckleheads.

oooops I didn't hear the first few picks in the 2nd. I guess I am all good with this pick. I believe MacDonald is one of the best goalie in this draft. I like the Flames are doing on this draft.. they drafted a big goalie, a big right winger Hunter Smith and a big but young D from Spruce Grove Hickey.

Goalies shouldn't be allowed to enter the draft. Waste of picks.

We always just have terrible luck with drafting goalies. I know those past experiences shouldn't prevent a team from drafting them in the future, but as a fan it is easy to dread picking a goalie this high.

Although, Ortio and Gillies are coming along fine at this point, so maybe we've turned the corner with goalies...

Come on man!

I guess the others 5 goalies taken in the first 61 picks were wastes also?

Yes, I would say those are a waste too. Here is the logic of this for you: Goalie's take forever to develop, are completely unpredictable, and are easy to trade for later.

I hope this pick turns out to be great, but I'll never be a fan of taking a goalie earlier than round 4 or so.

Fucale must of been a waste of a pick by the Canadiens at 36 last year..right?

Sounds like someone who doesn't know how to run an organization to me.

Did we really pass up on McKeown for a ####ing goalie at 34?

He's a decent looking goalie, but it was far too early to go this way.

The fact that give goalies were taken in the second tells you about the class of skaters available.

Not really. Goalies went in the 2nd last year (including our 2nd round pick being used by MTL to draft the #1 goalie, Fucale, at 36).

Considering 5 goalies went in 7 picks starting with McDonald, seems like this is where the goalies were slotted to go.

I think McDonald will be Calgary's #1 goalie prospect in relatively short order. This kid has the potential to be the starter for this team for a loooong time.

Look at all those goalie picks in the second round. All those GM's should be fired, like who drafts goalies anymore?

Or it could tell you that the goaltenders were bunched together on everyone's list and when the first one went it caused a panic in the room. No one wants to be left without a chair when the music stops.

I'm fairly high on Ortio/Gillies chances to play between the pipes for us.

For that reason this pick was unnecessary imo..

I think he made that point. changing the name and year doesnt really change anything.

Im not going to say good or bad about the pick, I have no idea who he is, but hope he does well and hope I can watch him a few times next year

Seeing all the names that went between our picks 34 and 54 made me cry a little inside. The lost opportunity..
