i love Giordano's game. he's a great leader for the kids. and i think he's gonna have a giant year - but i'd trade him for another top 7 pick. and i'd hope for bennett and ritchie. we need size. Gio is already 30. and it would assure a low finish for the squad. and and and - we land Mcdavid next year and the rebuild is practically finished. a few touches here and there - like tending defense and vet leadership - all of which we can buy - and we're in business.

Gio is worth #1.

Would be a pretty leaderless group of prospects. Wonder how that has been working for Edmonton?

It's been no good for them.

This fascination with taking a huge chance on a 25% chance to get number one isn't something I get. You want to trade the team Captain, and a top caliber defensemen in the league at his prime on about a 10% chance that a guy you pick in a weak draft year will be even close to Gio?

To me that's like selling the house and buying lottery tickets with the proceeds.

If we traded Gio just straight up for #1, I'd be pissed.

I certainly understand why some people might want to, but that would be bad IMO.

There's no reason to trade Gio at this point unless its an absolute home run.

If you're not getting the 1st pick and a stud prospect then you just don't trade him.

People are getting way to obsessed with prospects and draft picks at this point.

Edmonton failed due to a lack of a stable veteran group.

Gio willed this team to their work ethic last year even more then Hartley did.

I think it comes down to future production and value. If we had one guy that was even on the 2nd line that could occassionally play top line minutes for more than a decade it may be worth trading for a guy that will be past his prime in a few years at best. Worth the gamble I think purely in terms of future minutes played as we are going to have an elite d-man for a few years on a team no where near winning a championship.

Gio is worth more to the Flames playing than as an asset.

I would not make this trade either.

I mentioned in another thread that Panthers would have to add to the #1 pick. My words were something along the lines in what universe is a top dman worth less than an Ekbald, a kid who.....
I just didn't want a huge argument.

People really should kill the idea of trading Gio.

AJ Jakubec @AJonSports
Hearing the Calgary Flames have an interest in Cam Ward. Might involve the Flames & Hurricanes flipping picks.

I don't think they mean first round swaps. With his cap hit, Ward is almost negative value.
