The 29-year-old was eligible to pursue unrestricted free agency on July 1, but a source indicated that a new deal with the Lightning is “imminent.” While the precise terms of the extension weren’t immediately available, it is believed to be in excess of five years and worth as much as $5.5-million per season.

IIRC thats only a 1 million dollar raise for Callahan. Good deal for him and the Lightning as they save a few bucks off of St.Louis old contract.

As you said earlier... he'll surely pocket more than that difference in tax savings.

Edit: Actually be about 2.5 million in tax savings over the life of the contract, not adjusted

Who knows what he would have been offered? If he waited until tomorrow he could at least see how many teams were interested.

Seems a little high, my math could be wrong but 5.98m is what I came up with.

Either way he must have liked Florida rather than going UFA.
