MacT said that defence is point of strength in the Oil development system. I guess they are so well developed that anyone of them can step into KHL in a year or two. Addition of Nikita is going to help as he can teach them Russian, brilliant long term plan. Hats off to one of the deeper thinkers in the NHL.

Did they promise him lead role in seasons 8 thru 12 of Oil Change?

If #Oilers don't sign Nikitin they surrender nothing. Sign him before the draft, it's a late round pick in 2014, after draft late 2015 pick.

Interesting part about them having to give a pick if they sign him after the draft. Guessing the window is all the way up to July 1st.

Thats weird though. Because Nikitin can talk to anyone from the 27th to the 1st of July no? I guess in the end what is happening is Edmonchuk won't be giving up any picks unless he signs before the draft.

Yes he can talk to anyone from the 25th, but the window still only gives the Oilers the only opportunity to sign him before July 1st.

Oilers do have good defensive prospects. Can't accurately say that they don't without simply looking like a hater. Whether they develop in that system is indeed another matter.
Oilers have the worst forward prospects in the league. And by worst, I mean none. And by none I mean zero.

Marincin, Klefbom, and Nurse are all solid prospects and they would be just that for any team. That is not the Oilers' issue though. They need by my calculations 4 Dmen to round out their top 4. Trying to put any of these guys into that role this early on that team... well let's just say it would be no good.

Ultimately, I suppose you could say that Marincin, Nurse and Klefbom aren't really prospects anymore, by necessity they're going to be on the team next season which typically annulls their status as prospects.

That is it though. Yes they are prospects. They may be decent prospects, but by virtue of being in the edmonton oilers prospect system they go from decent or good prospect to just a prospect. Their development system is atrocious. Until they can prove otherwise, Edmonton is where good prospects go to become prospects or KHL players.

Nurse isn't a prospect? Oh come on. He totally is. He hasn't proved anything. I like the guy, wish we had him, but saying he isn't a prospect is a bit of a lie.

Context dude. Locke was implying that Nurse won't be a prospect any more because he will be drowning in the NHL under the weight of Eakins' swarm defence. He's using the definition of "prospect" that would exclude a player on an NHL roster.

No joke.

"Amazing" has been curb stomped on this board more times than Puckluck has had user names.....yet he continually comes back for more.

You should ask him if he has figured out what "the trap" is yet.

hmm Aaron Portzline has different details than Jason Gregor on the details:
http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/...ade-block.html
Quote:
On Thursday, Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen granted the Oilers a 48-hour window to negotiate with Nikitin. If they sign him, the Blue Jackets will receive a fifth-round draft pick, likely the 137th overall pick that they traded to the Oilers in March for defenseman Nick Schultz. If Nikitin does not sign, the Blue Jackets receive nothing.

Trading the rights to pending unrestricted free agents has become the rage in the NHL. It allows another team to negotiate with a prospective unrestricted free agent and avoid tampering charges. The Blue Jackets signed defenseman James Wisniewski in 2011 this way after acquiring his rights from Montreal.

NHL sources told The Dispatch that multiple teams have contacted the Blue Jackets about Nikitin, and the 48-hour window with the Oilers does not preclude the Blue Jackets from granting another club permission.
So if that's true. Oilers have up til today to sign him.

Also it has come out that Belov is good friends with Nikitin, and Belov blasted Eakins to the Russian media a few months ago, so I would say good chance Nikitin doesn't sign.

Ok, how hilariously awesome would it be if Nikitin decided not to sign with the Stain, and he instead signs here? Oh that would be delightful! Please let this happen, if for no other reason than I can go to work on Monday, and tell one of our owners (who is a greasefan) that players would rather sign in Calgary than siberia.

Nikitin is not very good. He had a good year when he first came up but at this point he is looking like a bit of a project to play in the NHL as a regular.
