If you do buy a Tacoma, remember to pick up some white frame Oakley's.

I bought a Tacoma from Heninger, and the synchros in the tranny went, and they told me to go F myself. First and last vehicle I'll ever buy from them.

I have seen that video, but I think we are talking about different things...

This is the best quote from the beyond link...

I'm surprised we haven't had a Defender of Toyota in here yet, posting how his family has always had problem free Toyotas for the past 150 years and that he put 500,000kms on one without a single repair or doing any maintenance and is still on the original tank of gas.

Agreed. It's hard to see the image buried all the way down in post #1.

It's remarkable timing really. Up until this week, heard nothing about them, now it's something negative every day. Feel like I dodged a bullet.

Funny cause so many people have had the opposite experience with these crap boxes.

Just another example of how every manufacturer can produce a lemon I suppose.
I pretty much have bought only Toyotas for the last 25 years. I think they're very well made. Sorry if you got a bad one. As you said, I guess every manufacturer can screw up.

What's nuts is how expensive they are on the used market, regardless of the well known rust problem.

My dad had one for the last 10 years, and the thing was pretty rock solid though through some pretty heavy abuse, so I still have a soft spot for the Tacoma. Each generation though they seemed to get bigger and uglier.

I do think Toyota reached their peak in the early 90s and haven't been able to replicate that standard since.

I want to like Toyota so much. They used to be fantastic vehicles. But the new ones are so boring. I don't mean boring in the sense that it needs to a fast sportscar, but Toyota's nowadays have no emotion. It's like driving an appliance, there's no soul to it.

I loved the Tacoma, I was ready to buy one two years ago. Until I drove it.

I still need to drive the FR-S but any of their regular offerings I'd rather have the equivalent VW, or Ford. Or even Kia. There's something I never thought I'd say, I'd rather have a Kia than a Toyota. Yikes.

My truck was recalled for the rust. They drilled holes into the frame and then pumped it full of some sort of wax coating. Maybe the frame looks good on the inside but it looks like hell on the outside and is definitely getting worse.

I wanted to like Kia till I drove one. Holy balls did it ever feel like an appliance. The Koreans have come a long way when it comes to design, but they still have a long way to go when it comes to building a car that can handle or have any driving spirit. I think they are the ultimate car for the person who wants a lot of gadgets for a good price, but doesn't really care about driving.

I'm like you with Toyota...I really want them to do well as I remember their cars from the late 80s and early 90s with nostalgic fondness. Back when thy had the MR2 and Celica and the Tercel/Corolla Wagons. They weren't always the most out there design wise, but they had their own honest personality. Toyotas today look like bloated bars of soap.

The FR-S does seem like a great car, although I wish it had a little more soul visually. That and it wasn't a Scion. Scions are for cheese-eating high school kids and seniors. Toyota just needs to kill that brand already.

Agreed on Scion. If I ever give the fr-s a nod it'll be the BRZ I drive, not the Scion.

They're both the same car with different badges. Just call it a Toyobaru.

I know, I'm just saying I'd take the Subaru just for the name. Don't like Scion, don't like the idea and marketing for that brand as a whole. Stop trying to make Toyota's look trendy.

Not far off, but more like:

-Hey guys, shifting into second feels grindey
-Huh, well, according to the mud on your vehicle, you must have been abusing it
-Really? So the extra six grand I paid for the off road package didn't allow me to drive off road?
-Naw, you must have parked this thing at the bottom of a lake. A new tranny is $9000
-Right. Well since everything from the alternator to the f'n radio has self destructed on this thing in the 1.5 years I've owned it, do you think that maybe the tranny might also be a piece of crap?
-Nope. Beat it.

In unrelated news, in 20 years of driving, I've never killed a tranny. Except on my brand new truck. Amazing.

Suck a nut, Heninger.
