In related buyout madness: This is the last year that Yashin is on the books for NYI... however DiPietro is getting paid until '28-29.

Joe Smith @TBTimes_JSmith
Agent for @BRichards_1991 says veteran would "certainly respond positively to interest from Tampa." Unclear, however, if Richards is a fit
Boyle's agent said something similar about Tampa
Lightning reunion this year?

Poor Yashin, he's gotten used to a standard of living getting that 2M+ cheque every year. Now he might have to get a job to supplement his income. Not fair at all.

Boyle would make sense, but I don't think Richards is a better option than Filppula or Johnson.

They should bring back Feaster and Tortarella too. Get Philly to pay part of Lecavaliers contract too and get him back.
Richards will retire one day as the best paid player of all time.

I don't know, it's going to be close, but Iggy can still pot 30 goals.

He's at just over 100 million career earnings which is salary plus signing bonuses before this buyout. He'll be at 121.5 after this buyout ... before he signs his next contract. So he's just behind Jaromir Jagr in total money. Jagr is ahead in "career earnings" because it doesn't appear the signing bonuses are calculated in there, but Jagr never really cashed in on signing bonuses in his time. He has a total of $700k on the books from them. His contract for next year is 3.5
So a total of 125.5 million total earnings so far for Jagr, and his last year for sure is coming up, so that's likely the final tally. Richards has an entire new contract to close a 4 million dollar gap. Someone will sign him to a deal that lets him break it in one year. For another reference, Ovechkin's comedic deal will put him at $136.9 million when he hits 35, assuming he plays the entire thing (and why wouldn't he, he's getting 10 mil a year for the next seven years)
Ladies and gentlemen, the highest paid player in NHL history. Brad Richards.

Stunning how the highest paid player in the history of the NHL won't even have HOF considerations.

He should go in for the contracts he got. I would certainly be giving him a job if I ran a sports representation agency.

The compliance buyouts come out of the players share of the revenues. So the owners dont care that every few years they bail out their top markets. It keeps costs lower for the poor teams

Why not? He's already getting big bucks by not playing for the Rangers. If he really wants to continue playing, I am sure he'll sign for less hoping he can play better and team will sign him for more money after this coming season. I think he's got nothing to lose.

That's messed up. Damn good player for a while, but never "elite".
Won the Conn Smythe (blech) and Lady Byng in 2004, but never any other major individual awards. Except the $$$ award, of course.

It never works that way. Brad and his agent is not going to take substantially less than market value because of the buyout money he is getting. Richards had 20 goals and 50 Points last year. He will get at least 4 million, probably 5 million in the UFA market.

I have not read the posts for this thread , but knowing cp there must be 1 or 2 that want the flames to sign him. No chance Richards signs with a rebuilding team. He has to much pride to cash in again

Not that Richards sucked, but I guess it really pays off to troll a team by signing you and then sucking for them.

hope he ends up with San Jose with the rest of the "just cant do it" crew.
How many times have the Sharks been picked to win it all without playing the tough games and just absolutely choked??

Given that most players don't negotiate their own contracts... His agent should be going in the HOF for those contracts.
