umm yeah we do: B. Jones, Knight, Arnold, Bouma, Byron

The one spot we really dont have filled truely is 1c but have 3 good 2/3c in Stajan, Backlund and Monahan

I'd say the top 3 teams that will have interest in Richards are, in no particular order, Mtl Ana Stl and depending on what Sjs does for roster changes and who Col may lose to UFA and RFA they may have a interest

When Feaster was fired, I thought, well that is a tad unfair, he did a good job with the draft considering.
However, this is two huge bullets dodged. Imagine if we signed ROR, and Richards. Lose all those picks, and maybe stuck forever with Richards. Not sure our owners would have the financial ability or want to spend that on a player to not play. So we probably would have had to stick it out for a while, a long long while.

ridiculous. he gets paid out, and gets to basically pick a team to sign with at whatever the desired team can afford, since he's already got $ coming in.
the penalties for such dumb contracts/signings should really not be circumvented. It would help the checks & balances out on dumb GMs. by the same token, they should penalize players for signing and getting all that guaranteed money. You want the pay day after some good years, sure sign the big contract, but you best continue to play well enough to justify the contract or it slips.

other than his strong start to the year with the stars, always thought he was overrated, and glad to see the past 2 seasons where he's basically a 4th liner/healthy scratch when the rangers need him most was great to watch.

			wonder how this works:
does the genius just call up Brad and say swing by my office when you have a minute, and bring a wheelbarrow. Or perhaps Brad is given a novelty sized cheque - much like a lottery winner would be given. Or maybe Slats just sends him and interac e-transfer of funds.......

I would assume he gets a monthly cheque ...

... for the next 12 years.

$143000+ ... every month ... for 12 years ... to not play for them.

He's been a pretty marginal player for a long time now. I can't see anyone offering him big money again.

Why would he pay more in taxes in Calgary? With the Bush tax cuts expiring January 1, 2013, the highest marginal rate in the US returned to 39.6%. Alberta has the lowest personal tax rate in Canada at 39%. Flames and Oilers players receive the highest after-tax income of any of the 30 NHL teams, including Florida and Tampa Bay. Alberta also has much lower property taxes than Florida, receive free health care, and don't pay a 0.9% tax on income over $200,000.

Fun fact, a player in Montreal will take home the least amount of after-tax dollars. The three California teams are next, with Toronto being the fifth worst.

That right there makes me sick to my stomach. League locks out, cries about financial stability, kids starving, nations crumbling and Brad Richards paid $123,000.00/MONTH for 12 years to NOT play. That's some messed up $#!+.

And no I dont want Richards at any amount. Guy is being paid out to go away for a reason.

Considering that Burke sent Nonis to make Richards an offer I find that unlikely. Burke is one of the many that got lucky when he choose NY.

Rightfully so. Richards was a bonafide superstar putting up huge numbers at the time.

Richards will get Vinny LeCavalier money from someone, somewhere. Another FA frenzy albatros deal bites the dust.
I was a huge fan of the Richards to Flames idea at the time. The dollars on that buy out now look terrible, I have no shame in admitting I am wrong from time to time. This was one of them for sure.

Someone will pay him. He put up 151 points in 2.5 seasons in NY. He was a fine player, just overpaid.
