I'm with you on PJ

Good, he's not only a shameless homer but is hopelessly obnoxious while doing so. This is coming from someone who actually likes NESN broadcasts of Bruins games.

I think when Friedman was in the role of moderator on those panels it was a bad role for him. He seemed at times to try and play devils advocate to bring a different perspective and it didn't work. I think that role is much better for a broadcaster (ie Ron Maclean) who can just run the panel without also having to give an opinion.
Elliot is awesome on the radio and when he was doing solo pieces on CBC not sure the panel is the best role for him to have.

Friedman is a great reporter, but I don't find him a great analyst of the game. He's out of place when it comes to that, especially when he's on the panel with former players.
However with news, rumours, hot stove type stuff, he's awesome.

If you watch, Friedman plays more of an insider role when on the panel. He dishes the trade info, the player info, the relationship between player and club info, trade secrets, the current news, etc, etc. He doesn't actually provide an insight as to how the game is being played at the moment.
It's a smart way to break up the monotony of in-game highlights and the opinion diarrhea of the ex-players arguing with each other on the panel.

Yeah - Whenever PJ or Healy start raising their voices and getting into arguments Friedman is usually the guy calmly sitting there, probably embarrassed for one or both of them. It's not until a respected former coach or player is guest paneling that they stop.

I like him as well but he seems to have a pretty good gig on ESPN.

Al is a bit of a loon, but the Hot Stove was not the same w/o him and Duhatschek.

As we just announced on our preview show, SNet adds a second CHL game weekly to compliment our Friday night package starting Sunday Jan 11th.

Oh the glory days of Al Strachan and Red Fisher on the hot stove lounge. I actually found both of them amusing and hilarious at times although I don't have a lot of use for Strachan especially.
