Really? Rarely does Bob say anything I think is totally wrong - if I disagree I generally see where he's coming from. He never just fills air-time with vague, hockey flavoured words, a go-to for most panelists. Other than Friedman I'm not sure there's another hockey commentator who meets that standard. Many of them frequently say things that just make no sense at all.
100%. Other NHL GMs will actually call Bob to see if there's anything going on. He is crazy connected. He also doesn't speculate. If he says something, or floats something out there it has been passed on to him by a legit source.

Do the people making these decision even like hockey?
Flames coverage will be ghetto; broadcasters with crappy audio and a 1st intermission with dummies reading cue cards 99% of which will be about TO that will then be replayed in its entirety in the 2rd intermission.
Ugh, barf. SN is going to be every bit as bad as feared.
I hope TSN does a 'live blog' type show during game nights where they just get some smart guys talking about the games as they happen. That and NHL.com box scores for me next year now that Maher is retired.
The problem is that Rogers thinks they got this deal because of their current product and not the actual reason, the giant giant sack of money. They don't feel that they need to change it.
This is going to be a long 12 years. These are going to feel like 12 Martian years.
This thread reminds of conversations I use to have with my friends when I was 4 years old when we'd debate the existence and potential likely hood of being killed by the boogieman while we were asleep.

Oh, but the boogeyman does exist.
Oh and this news sucks.

Do I think that Rogers believes their product won them this deal? Yes. I don't think they think they think they would have won it without the sack of money, but I totally think they overvalue their production and talent quality.
There is no way Rogers doesn't have Elliotte Friedman as a centrepiece in their coverage. It would be foolish omission since he would add a tremendous amount of credibility to their panel, which they badly need.

Probably being over dramatic, but I think hockey is going to take a huge step back in Canadian culture while these idiots control our viewing of the game.

Boomer has been eluding to a new job for Friedman with Rogers during every Friedman segment for the last month. I don't think we need to worry about him not sticking around.

Is Don Cherry completely out as well? I was laughing with my son if people next year on HNIC have to yell out 'Back to you Georg Strombolufugus" especially if it's Americans!
