Seeing that replay again I can understand where the call came from.

That Van Percie goal was unreal!!
After seeing a few more replays of the penalty, I guess I can see it being a penalty but I still think it's ridiculous. To me it looks like he purposely stepped on his foot and then dove to the ground as if stepping on his foot some how swept his legs out from under him.

I wish the dive would outweigh the contact.

Yeah, me too. Technically Costa planted his foot on the defender as opposed to the defender taking his foot out but I could see it being given.

When I first saw it it looked like Costa turned and just lost his footing.

I think there's something there for the Dutch to exploit - RVP was pulling away fast from that defender. I'm not sure they can keep up.
 And that header!? Wow!

 Hup Holland Hup!

I think this ref is buying waaaaay to many dives, but Italian soccer is full of it (even more than others) so I'm not surprised he's buying it.

Need more yellows for the diving or it's never going to change.

So what are people expecting Costa to do here, leap over the leg? He's also clearly not already going down.

Costa is running full speed and trying to change directions. There is just no way he stepped on him intentionally, and no way he could stay on his feet after his plant surface changed from the ground to a leg flying past him.

Gotta say, I'm not really loving this CBC soccer panel so far. They come across a little boring. I kind of wish they had Craig Forrest or Holger Osciek back.

Agreed. There's also no way the defender took him down intentionally.

To me a penalty should be the toughest call to earn (in all of sports) . That one didn't do it for me

Still a bad penalty call.

Contact wasn't that bad. Not significant enough to get a penalty shot. Penalty shots should be earned only from hard contact, not given out like free candy on marginal or light contact.

You see this goal the spanish defense didnt dare slide in at the risk of a penalty. Robben brilliantly turned.

Another long ball! Love it. Tiki-taka is boring garbage. Lets see what happens or if Spain needs another penalty to get back into it.
