Pinarello Dogma 65.1 Hydro comes with Disc Brakes. $6000 Just for the frame. Build it with some Durace Di2 and you are now looking at a $10k bike.

Oh there are definitely top of the line race bikes with them (not totally legal yet, mind you).
Colnago frame, full electronic Campy gruppo, and fancy wheels, and more carbon than a coal mine, and you get top of the line pretty quickly.
I've seen a couple builds in the shop I train out of that were >$16k.

i like to ride a bike that costs more than $7,000.........i recently read that shimano now has a mountain group offering electronic shifting - it will be interesting to see what the long term durability of these systems are, the general uptake, and the trickle down effect to less costly lines like XT, SLX, Deore etc......

At my LBS they were saying you are going to see many more high end road bikes with disc brakes coming out in the near future. They are finding with the high speeds people are going, especially downhill, that the V brakes aren't as safe. Disc brakes offer more control and power, through a much wider range of weather than the V brakes. A big concern with V brakes is them overheating during a long downhill run, and becoming useless.

Doing Highwood Pass from the North Gate this weekend with a team from work. Pretty excited. I've never done any sort of climb outside of city riding before.

It hurts. but in a good way. Enjoy the hell out of it. Nothing like the satisfaction of doing a good climb. And you gotta post a pic at the summit.

Cool. I knew v brakes and u brakes get glazed and become less effective. I use hydro's and mechanical. I can see the everyday cyclist using them. Around here the hardcore racers say they won't use them.

So I'm looking to replace a crappy sportchek special.
I bike to work every day in the summer, 11km round trip. Mostly flat, all paved.
I prefer straight bars, and I don't want to spend over $800 if I can help it, so I'm looking at Cannondale Bad Boy 9 (http://www.cannondale.com/2013/bikes...-boy/bad-boy-9), Cannondale Quick 4 (http://www.cannondale.com/2014/bikes.../quick-4-32162), or Specialized Sirrius Sport (http://www.specialized.com/ca/en/bik...s/sirrus-sport).
I've read that Cannondale builds slightly better frames, and all three use similar components (although the Quick has carbon forks).
Anyone have any opinions about these three?

Personally I'd rank those bikes in the order you have listed them

I have a Cannondale Bad Boy 0 and it has a more upright geometry to it for it's urban mission. Verify it yourself, but I think the Quick has a slightly more aggressive fit to it. I ended up putting on an offset seatpost to try and reduce some of the upright nature of it.

So ultimately it depends on how much you spend in on street riding / congested pathway vs clear pathways. The Bad Boy will take more abuse, the Quick's should be lighter and a bit faster.

Bought my Scott sportster 10 today. Got home at 10pm and went for a 45 minute ride already. Butt and inside of palms a bit sore. So I may need to go to a shop and get some adjustments and a better seat.

My daily commuter has more than that put into it. Then again I can justifiy if because to work and back is 64kms round trip.To me those are commuters. That trek is only $2500 us. The cannondale synapse is actually $9500. Who says a commuter has yo be some cheap thing? I only bike year round yo commute.I only ever drive my car on long road trips or when I need to move.

The average household spends about $3000 in gas a year. If commuting to work on a decent bike means you save a good chunk of that, then it may be money well spent.

You also forgot to mention the money you save on maintenance and insurance. I pay 3 dollars a month for parking insurance which has all the same coverage as when I was paying $90 bucks a month.
