I see him easily replaced by Ferland and or Wolfe.
No one talks about Bill Arnold making this team and what type of toughness he might bring.....he's 6'0 218

According to that logic, Joe Colborne should be striking fear into players' hearts with his meanness and intimidation.

I met a lot of the players outside of the arena at the 2nd last game of the year and Westy was one of my favs. He specifically cited the vancouver game as the reason why their season fell apart afterwards while we played more than a few games above 500 to finish out the year. I absolutely (said like Kelly Hrudey) would bring Westy back.

I didn't like the poll question. I simply want Westgarth to be signed as a depth and to make the Flames not totally dependent on McGrattan.
The Flames have been trying to get tough guys since Ivanians got knocked out of hockey early in 2011-12. It is not easy to do.

Without Westgarth where are the Flames if McGrattan busts a knuckle?

Bouma and Glencross and Ferland are all of the sudden asked to step up and do a job they don't want to and their gritty play falls off as they will be getting called on every tough thing they do.

At least most of CP hasn't come up with Breen being the Westgarth replacement. He isn't.

The talented spending to the cap 2011-12 Flames totally fell apart when Jackman was banged up and Kostopolus was our tough guy...with Blair Jones as his backup (Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond and Desbiens and Alui were the non-answers that were actually given a chance)

I heard rumours Westy will be playing on the first line next season. I think it's because Burke sees him as a truly two-dimensional, two-way player, who can contribute at both ends of the ice.

Ferland has had exactly 3 fights as a pro 2 against middle weights and one against a bantam weight.

Chris Butler has a better fight record than Ferland.... he did not take a beating from Garrison in the Vancouver brawl.

And while you can hope that Wolfe might play in the NHL and even handle the goon stuff right now he is in the same position as the former Flames #1C Cervenka.

I agree, I have a hard time thinking Wolf can be a worse hockey player than Westgarth.

I don't know where this "worst player ever" stuff is coming from. Sure, he's an enforcer and he'll never be a great player, but he put up 1 less point than McGrattan did in 40 less games. Defensively he's not good, but the dude isn't exactly a John Scott that doesn't know how to hold his hockey stick.

I'm watching the Belfast v Coventry semi-final and midway through the 2nd period, Westgarth hasn't even got a shift.
Commentators were remarking on how he hasn't sat down on the bench all game. He must have heard them because he has now sat down.

Shweta has just put Belfast 2-1 up.

Thanks for the update.

With that new info I'm now voting "No, make room for youth or new blood" in the poll.

Even biznasty managed to score more points than that in 11 games.

He has been pretty good - surprised he isn't playing. Commentators cited the risk of penalties.
 Anyway, its gone to OT.

My wife is pleased about that.

			So did the Belfast coach.
He sat on the bench the whole game without a shift.

Belfast were beat 3-2 after a shootout.

It wouldnt really have mattered either way, Westgarth would have waived eons before McGrattan did, contract or no he wouldnt have been on this team.
