I believe it. I'm not basing my thoughts on what the scouts think, because I'll likely never get their full input to help make up my own mind. I have to go on what material we as fans get and the odd tidbit of inside Info CP manages to muster up from time to time.

Like last week when someone said that a person within the organization told him that the Flames will be sticking with the top 4 and take who is left.

I'm grasping on to that in the hopes they don't overthink it.

Besides, it's almost universally known now that Edmonton will take Draisaitl anyways leaving the Flames with a Sam, You want to take Ritchie over a Sam? Nobody does, no one. Well maybe Burke. Bt he is just one voice in the group so it doesn't really matter.

If he gets hit he shuts down, he is not a physical guy at all. I have zero doubt Ritchie will be a much better NHL player, he is an absolute beast now and once he gets whipped into NHL shape he is going to be extremely hard to stop. I see his upside is a Lucic type player with better hockey IQ, hands, and shot. I think the Flames should draft whichever of the top 4 group that is left so the Ritchie point is a non factor but MDC should in no way be in the same sentence as the other 4 guys you mentioned.
You are the only I've seen who thinks so little of MDC so I'm just going to ignore any if your posts that reference him.

I agree to a point. I don't necessarily feel that passing on one of the Sams for Ritchie looks good at this point, but I would still be fine with it. All this is, of course theory and conjecture from fans who are passionate about their team and try to absorb any and all info they can about this draft, but none of us are pro scouts.

My conclusion, it's probably worth a lot more than most of us are giving it credit for to move into one of those top two slots. There are a lot of duds who get picked 4th overall. A guy like Stu Barnes was a 4 overall pick...probably makes you puke. He had a better career than a lot of other 4 overall picks in the past 30 years.

After seeing this I would not criticize Flames management if they trade Baertschi + the 4 overall and another pick to move to the top of the draft.
Interesting post and I'd do the Baertschi + to move up to 1st overall as well (get Ekblad) but on the other hand we should end up with a good player at 4th since all 4 are rated fairly close with no one a consensus #1. Jones fell to 4th last year and we could have another draft much like that this year.

Default Craig's List 2014 Prospects

I think I speak for at least some people when I say that I just can't wait for the draft. Having gone over all the options in my head, I just don't really care who we take out of the top 10 or so guys, I just want to see who we pick and get excited about whoever it is, not moan and groan about who we didn't pick.

I'd love any of the top 4, I'd be fine with Richie, MDC, Ehlers, etc.

In a perfect world, I'd actually love trading down and picking Virtanen. He's my top pick (not top player, just a player I really like).

But most of all, I'm just excited to get a new, great addition to the Flames, that will hopefully develop into a fantastic player. No matter who we pick, I'm going to get excited about THAT guy. Enough good has been done over the last few years that I trust the Flames, and I trust that whatever decision they make won't be a bad one.

I think the Nucks take Ehlers or Nylander but I guess we'll see. I definitely see them grabbing a winger

1. Reinhart
2. Ekblad
3. Bennett
4. Draisaitl
5. Dal Colle
6. Ehlers
7. Ritchie
8. Virtanen
9. Nylander
10. Perlini

But for me, no matter who is left at 4, you walk up and take the last guy of that top tier. The only exception for that which wouldn't be a questionable risk from where we're drafting is for Dal Colle. Anyone else and we're playing with fire where we shouldn't be, and IMO will be passing off a better player to a team below us. You don't #### around with a top 5 pick. But seeing as Conroy specified there are 4 players they are seriously interested in, I'm not too worried.

You don't like Ritchie, so you completely down-play his abilities and worth, and keep doing so for MONTHS even though his ceiling is extremely high.

Someone then goes on to post what he thinks about MDC whom you love, and this is your reply?

I wonder why people often gang-up on you here?

I don't love MDC. I don't love Draisaitl either. I'm really not a big fan of this draft after the two Sams and Ekblad.

But I keep hearing that the comparable for Ritchie is Lucic, who by most accounts, is the best power forward in the NHL.

People shouldn't be expecting Ritchie to become the best power forward in the league. If everything goes right for him, he could become a 60 point winger in the NHL.

I simply don't see the value at 4th overall there. Yeah, if we could get Lucic 2.0 with the 4th pick, that's great. But the odds are against him.

It's just as likely, probably moreso, that he becomes another Brian Boyle or Zack Kassian.

I just don't see any sort of justification over taking him over the elite playmaking ability of Draisaitl or the hands and shot of MDC. He doesn't fill a positional need for the franchise either.

Never mind taking him over one of the Sams or Ekblad.

I'd say lot of guys have seen him play - he was on national tv a couple times this year, in fact he matched up against MDC in the national tv game in late January when we were already out and a lot of the board had turned to prospect porn and were getting interested in the top draft guys.... Oshawa won 6-1, MDC had a couple goals and an assist, Ritchie was -2 and took a minor. Tiny sample but they weren't close on offensive skill that night, one looked like a sniper and the other looked largely disinterested.

Also he was in the top prospect game a couple weeks earlier, I didn't notice him much but wasn't watching for him tbh. Draisaitl wasn't noticeable much to me either though. Dal Colle got a goal. Rhino had two points. Josh Ho-Sang was pretty good too, made me thing moving the two seconds for a late 1st if you could get him would be a solid move - dunno what the suspension does to his draft slot though.

Remember those last couple of weeks where we stopped being paranoid of picking Ritchie? Those were nice.

Meh, I don't think anybody is going to think the sky is falling if Ritchie comes in... for myself from day 1 I become a Nick Ritchie fan if he puts on the flaming C.

Half the fun of the prospect debates is interpreting the 2 or 3 games you saw them play and the various scouting reports and coming up with your own opinion and making the case for guys though.

If everybody just said, well management is smarter than us so whoever they pick will be OK this would be a pretty boring thread.

Exactly, if we take Ritchie he becomes a Flame immediately and nobody will think the sky is falling. He will be this years Jankowski or Kanzig or any other pick and everyone will accept him as part of the team.
