I don't care that the consensus is there is very little between the top 4. 2 or 3 out of the 4 can be busts.
So I take it you don't buy into this whole "Treliving is the GM" thing then?

It sounds to me that Florida are content with the young players they have on their roster and are going to try and make a push for the playoffs, and more, next season.

Does anyone see a scenario where we could trade for the #1 pick whilst holding onto our #4 pick, could current roster players get that #1 pick??

I'll try to find the link in a bit. But Burke has one of the worst drafting records of any active manager.

It's quite scary actually.

Oh I buy into this whole "Treliving is the GM" thing. I also believe that Treliving respects Burke a lot and will be on the same page as Burke. I think under this structure, it's pretty clear that the "President" makes the final decisions. The GM has full autonomy but the President makes the final decisions. So yes, I do believe that if Burke feels like something has to be done it will be done regardless of who on the staff disagrees with him.

This has been brought up several times and the answer is no. Hudler, Wideman, Backlund, Baertschi, etc will not get you first overall. Flames won't trade Gio, Monahan, or Johnny so indont see any way they can add the first pick while keeping the 4th

I'm pretty relaxed on this front.

Why?

Craig Conroy. The guy empties his head when he's on the radio. He told all that it was Todd Button that made the Gaudreau call, he said he and Brad have a guy, and didn't mention having to see what Brian wants, or Brian will make the final call once.

That speaks volumes to me. If there was trouble this man would let it slip.

The Flames have placed more trust in Button in the last several drafts, and now have added a good young talent evaluating former assistant GM.

Burke is there to help and have a say, but I don't get the feeling he's calling the shots. I think he's firmly in the backseat and objecting if he hates something.

Time will tell though

i am not the biggest Burke fan, but if he intended to run the draft process, he wouldn't have pushed to get Treliving on board so soon and would have brought (or tried) in scouts that he had worked with in the past. In addition, he has publicly stated that he liked Calgary's selections in last years draft.

If Treliving is making a decision to completely reshape the roster (ie. trade Gio, Brodie, Monahan)***** then i am sure he will need buyoff from Burke.

**** examples, people....just examples.

Lol I was on HF and someone mentioned a poster representing CGY for a mock draft absolutely ruining the Flames with 2 trades:

To TOR: 4th overall
To CGY: 8th overall, 32nd overall

To BUF: Sean Monahan, TJ Brodie, 8th overall
To CGY: Tyler Myers, Bo Horvat, Austin Watson, 42nd overall

Must be a Canucks fan.

wtf ... I'll not even comment on how bad these proposals are, but since when are Bo Horvat and Austin Watson Sabres property?

Fantasy draft day trades. People tend to go a little nuts, this guy is something else though.

I am starting to wonder if there is any appetite to promote Button to AGM. His recent body of work has been top notch. I would love to get my hand on his previous draft notes to see if there were any picks he was over ruled on. Someone doesn't last this long with different management teams if they are just average.

If the rumours are true that Florida is in love with Nylander why not start amping up the rhetoric that we are in love with him @ #4, this could bring the price down a little.

this. Him effectively being the only one lasting for such a long time with different GMs speaks volumes to me and the 2011 draft, where Feaster basically let him run the show, was prove to me that the guy really knows his stuff. Don't really want him as AGM though, I think he's just too valuable at his current position.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Button is doing great where he is and the flames are benefiting from him now. Unless he asks for a change, keep it as is.

The Fan960 morning show was speculating 4th OV, 2nd round pick, and Brodie to move up to first to take Ekblad.

My first reaction, and the reaction on CP would be chaos. But, (a big but), IF Ekblad turns into a top-10 defenceman in the NHL and a perennial Norris candidate in a few years, then the trade would be worth it.

The consensus is that Ekblad is good but not great. That doesn't mean the consensus is correct or that the Flames feel the same way.

I'd be ok moving Brodie.

The return better be real big because I think he has a long career ahead of him.

Florida would absolutely have to add a shiny piece to the 1st overall to have Brodie going their way, otherwise no way in hell we touch that.
