Icon46 Jim Benning to be named Canucks GM. Presser Friday.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Hearing Boston's Jim Benning met with the Canucks yesterday. He's considered the frontrunner for the GM job in Van.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Some believe Benning is getting the Canucks job and Linden is simply waiting until the conclusion of round 2 to make it official.

update:

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Jim Benning has agreed to a multi-year deal as Canucks gm and will be officially introduced in Vancouver on Friday.

Good hire for the Canucks, unfortunately.

Ugh. That would be a good hire by the Canucks. That sucks.

I'd love to see the Caps scoop Benning from the Canucks.

I hope the Bruins last a couple more rounds so Benning can't participate in any draft meetings for Vancouver.

It would be Epic, if they offered him the job, and then he turned them down.

Linden & Benning could be past discussing Benning's new contract & on to discussing who the Canucks should draft, & hire for coach. Benning has the scouting info prepared by the Bruins staff.

^^^ Benning is still employed by the Bruins and that would be tampering on an epic scale. If Benning goes to the Canucks I could see the Bruins saying if he wants out he can't join the Canucks until after the draft.

Sounds like a good hire. Thought they might have gone with a guy with experience in the chair like McPhee but the Canucks org has been obsessed with the Bruins model since they lost so this makes sense on that level not to mention they fact Benning has a relationship with Linden. Benning was one of the few names I heard about wen Feaster was fired that sounded interesting

That's almost surely what happened when Chiarelli got hired by the Bruins. Technically he couldn't join the team until mid July, but it was implied later that in his final interviews with Boston he laid out a very specific plan of what they should do between then (mid May) and when he took over as GM (mid July). I imagine if Benning is hired that he and Linden will have similar conversations.

Good for them!

Gillies did alot of damage so it may not be as painful seeing them hire well.

The Sedins are past their prime as well so he'll have work cut out for himself..

Getting a little ahead of ourselves, aren't we?

^ I think the meaning is they don't want to announce it in the middle of a playoff round to make it a distraction..

Are you suggesting Round 2 might not come to an end at some point and may in fact go on indefinitely?

Possible. I wonder if Feaster did the same thing...
