Also trading Giordano would be an insanely massive mistake. He has turned into an unbelievable defenceman, and just take a look at our record last season with him the lineup vs. out of the lineup. He was always a factor and a huge reason for the excellent work ethic culture that permeated the dressing room.
You keep Giordano for this rebuild. Trading him would be idiotic to put it mildly.

No I'm not. Sven can't make the Flames and the Panthers are looking for immediate help and that's not Baertschi. We all get that you love the kid but he's unproven and his stock took a hit this year. Like I said if only Sven and the 4th could get it done the Flames would be all over that.

The Flames wouldn't even trade the 6th + Gaudreau for Seguin. They aren't trading the 4th + Baertschi for Ekblad or Reinhart.

Baertschi and 4 is too expensive, I'd much rather just take whoever is there at 4.

I simply don't believe Sven's value is nearly as high as you think it is and no I don't believe that him and the 4th would be enough to secure the first overall pick. It's natural for fans to overrate the prospects of their own team so I will just leave it at that. I'm of the belief if the Flames make any deals this summer Sven is a likely candidate to be moved.

Bull. Four spots in a draft that does not have a consensus number one pick does not cost you a top end prospect. Get real. The player you get at four is likely to be just as good as the guy at one. The only reason you trade up in this draft is to guarantee you get the guy you want. No one is going to cough up a top end prospect to get the right to draft another top end prospect. Where is the benefit for a team to give up two top end assets to get one?

I do think that Sven and 4 gets the flames #1 ,if panthers wanted a young player that May or may not play in the nhl next year. They don't want that type of player though. I'm glad because I would rather keep Sven.
That said my gut tells me that Sven will be traded in a package deal for a d-man that is young but nhl ready. Got nothing to back that up, just a gut feeling.

You don't give up Baertschi to move from 4th to 1st, you're getting a great player at 4th already -- why give up a prospect with huge potential? In other words, do you do Ekblad for Baertschi and Bennett? Or whoever shakes out at 4th...
|
This. It shouldn't cost a blue chip prospect to move from 4th to 1st and if that is what Tallon is asking, Treliving better laugh and walk away. If you're giving up Sven or Johnny+ it should be for the 1st AND we keep our 4th. In the past decade this is what it cost to move up into the top 20 in the draft:
2003
1st + 73rd for 3rd + 55th
16th for 21st + 66th + 107th
17th for 22nd + 68th
2004
4th for 8th + 59th
19th + 247th for 24th + 46th
2005
8th for 12th + 49th + 207th
12th for 16th + 41st
16th for 20th + 53rd
20th for 29th + 41st
2006
16th for 20th + 53rd
2007
9th for 13th + 44th + 87th
18th for 24th + 70th
16th for 19th + 42nd
2008
5th for 7th + 37th + 68th
7th for 9th + 40th
12th + for 17th + 28th
12th for 13th + 74th
2009
12 for 16th + 77th + 181st
20th for 23rd + 84th
2010
15th for 19th + 59th
2011
None
2012
14th for 21st + 42nd
2013
18th for 20th + 58th
Now not all of those picks involved were from the same years but it gives a good estimation of cost. I'm sure someone with better math skills could figure out the average it has cost to move up 3 spots but it doesn't cost too much. Colorado's 2nd + another late round pick should do it if it's a swap of picks. If Tallon is planning on getting "ready now" player(s) for the pick it then it's going to cost no one less than Gio+ and if that's the case, my opinion is you don't do it. Gio is a bonafide top 2 Dman. Ekblad could be a franchise player but he could also be the next Erik Johnson.

Sorry guys I just don't share your opinion on this one. I personally don't believe there are a lot of teams that are overly high on Sven as he's far from a sure thing in the NHL. That said I still get the feeling he may be traded in the offseason.

I think he'll finish a Flame. Probably 10 years from now as a player/coach like Lowry did (or am I think of someone else?).

Erick I don't share your opinion on Baertschi either, he will be good. He is still young, needs to put on some muscle, gain a bit of confidence, but he has the offensive creativity we could use. Young players are inconsistent, he'll bounce back in the next year or two.

If I am Florida I am probably looking for a good young defenceman which is why I don't get why they don't want Ekblad. Not sure what Florida is thinking here so honestly tough to make a good trade proposal I just thought yours was light on value. You'd want your first offer to at least begin a dialogue especially knowing that the 1st overall is going to elicit a bit of league wide interest.
If I was Florida I'd be asking for players like Beartschi, Brodie, Wotherspoon, Gaudreau, Reinhart... not the Glencross type players of the world who spend their nights mainly floating around not giving a rats ass.
I don't get why Florida is doing this... but if I am the Oilers I seriously consider shipping them Yakupov + something for that pick and getting Ekblad. But the Oilers are run by morons so lucky for us that will never happen.
