They'll make the playoffs next year because their youth is stronger than expected and the Canadian teams are weak, but yeah, they're not doing anything real.
I think he's a fine coach and the problem is the team, but the coach always goes before the players, rightly or wrongly.

Since they're re-living the downfall of the Flames, I think the obvious choice is to reunite the Jay Feaster-Brent Sutter tandem.

It's kind of the same issue the Sharks face. AV is one of the best coaches in the league so when you fire him there's a good chance you won't be replacing him with a better coach. If the Sharks decide to make a change there's a good chance it won't be for the better.

You think they will be better than the Sharks, Kings, and Ducks next year? Their youth is pretty mediocre and there's no immediate help on the way. Wild will probably get Vanek and it's hard to imagine any of the teams that made the playoffs in the West this season not making it next season.

It would be no shock at all if Tortorella never coached in the NHL again.
Heatley trolled him right out of the league. I wouldn't be surprised if he re-invented himself as a female detective and kidnapped Hartley one day.

No ... sorry I was talking about the Sharks and McLellan.

Yeah, Keenan wont' be hired because of the history with Linden but Torts and Keenan have different coaching philosophies. Torts wants a tight checking game and Keenan more or less lets his team freewheel.

So what was Linden doing in Calgary today? Couldn't have just been about pushing the ointment cream could it?

He was personally thanking Hartley for getting him a job.

#Canucks will fire John Tortorella tomorrow w 4yrs lft on 5yr deal. His payout is believed to be $1.6M. @CTVVancouver pic.twitter.com/abRs8VJYFs
1.6m when he signed a 5 year 10m contract is a good negotiation by Aquilini/Gillis whomever did it

I believe in the Pony Power
|
I wonder how mad he really is at Hartley. I mean we know he's mad but good lord in his deepest corners I wonder how black that hate for him really is.
I know the Canucks were not playing well before then - but Hartley really took them of course and specifically Torts.

They have a history so I'm pretty sure his dislike for him is deep seeded. That said Torts is a professional head coach and should have known better to be sucked into that. I simply don't understand how a man in his position could put himself in that situation even if he was being taunted. Hartley played him like a fiddle as Torts really lost his composure and things just never recovered.

Fairly sure the $1.6m would be per year not total (80% payout per year), Tortorella can be stupid when his heart rate is up but I'm sure he's not a total idiot.
