"Fresh minds, fresh ideas, talented and experienced hockey people."

I agree 100%
Our franchise hockey IQ is expanding and you need intelligence to grow and move forward.

Even with that I feel next year will be a struggle for the Flames... an enjoyable struggle similar to this season.
We need patience to allow the mortar on our new building blocks to cure. Interesting to see what the collective mood will be here at CP in a year from now.

Was glad to hear conroy last week suggesting they won't spend to the cap

They have to be so careful in who they introduce to that room

Great write Bingo...and wholeheartedly agree. Its nice to see the approach management has taken here, I was very concerned they'd follow the Oilers path and hire Nieuwy.
They got it right.

nice write up...
it's funny because with all the names of bright young minds for this or another GM role, it's hard to know what Brad or anyone else would bring but for some reason I wanted him to be the guy and to me (and like Burke said) he seemed to be the best available based an the consensus and we got him...
given time, I think this current management team could do amazing things for this franchise.

I do fear the Flames may be getting it right while the Oilers continue to spin their wheels mired in group-think and drawing on equity from the glory days. Colorado has already blown by us and I wonder how long before Calgary does the same thing (already finished ahead in the standings this year).

Based on universal feedback, Treliving looks like a good hire. Proof is in the results obviously.

I like Niewendyk, I think he's a sharp guy. I think he'd be a good candidate. But because he was a long time Flame, captain, and retired number I just didn't want to see them do that and take away my ribbing of Edmonton and now Vancouver.

I certainly hope we do a bit better than a hitter in baseball, considering a top hitter is only successful, on average, 30% of the time.

I expect we will.

I suppose we'll never hear it, but I'd love a fresh take on our prospect pool. Like where did he see Sven? Gaudreau? Etc

I wasn't against hiring Niewendyk. He didn't do well in Dallas but working under Burke would give him the support he'd need. Having said that I think we got the guy with the best qualifications.

If I've said this once I've said it a million times: When a brand new GM fires a long-standing coach in Dave Tippett and replaces him with Marc Crawford then hes either batcrap crazy or has absolutely no idea what hes doing.

As for Joe? I think it might be a little of column A and a little of column B...

I think Nieuwendyk is a lot smarter than Kevin Lowe and Craig MacTavish combined Anyways, I think Brad Treliving is a good hire. Fresh ideas, fresh face and he seems to be saying all the good things. We just have to wait if he can walk the talk once the season starts. I'll give him at least a season and a half before I make my judgment on this guy but so far people seems to like him. The question now is how long before CP people turned on him. We tend to say all the right words and get excited at the beginning then once someone say something bad against a player/coach or management, the hate just grew.

From what I heard, he seems to be into building through draft and seems to know what is a rebuild means. So I think that is good. I think we have the personnel here to build on.. Giordano, Brodie on defense and maybe Wotherspoon, Monahan, Gaudreau(maybe a season in AHL if he struggles early in the NHL), Baertschi, Colborne and others. Karri Ramo was good in his first season and I still see some improvement. Ortio is still a work in progress but he is way ahead for his age and the amount of time he spent playing professional hockey in North America. I think Treliving knows that. We are definitely the opposite of the Oilers rebuilding who seems to be lost in how rebuilding is. We might not have the same skilled young forwards compare to Oilers but at least our young guys knows how to play on both side of the ice. Good luck on GM Tre. The more success this guy gets the better for us Flame fans. Looking forward in the next season.
