Each teams personal draft lists are the only one that matter, not these imaginary ones fans focus on and sulk over when things don't go according to a fictional plan.
How is the Ryan MacInnis example an extreme example if there is no board?
Are you basing your comment on a board that you say doesn't exist?
If there's no board, Ryan MacInnis being drafted first overall is not an extreme example.

And of course there is no one board. I haven't read one post from anyone in any thread on any hockey forum say this. There are many boards. And everyone can conclude themselves if a pick was off their board based on their own subjective conclusion.

You say that the media uses the term "board" as a general consensus.
That's what all the posters are doing as well when we refer to it as a board.

Was Klimchuk drafted off the board because he was drafted 28? No because most scouts lists had him in that area. If he was drafted 24 or 33 would it be off the board? Not in my opinion. But if we drafted him 6th instead of Sean. I can confidently say he was off the board that I am referencing to. Obviously not the Flames' board. But I would say "we went off the board to draft Morgan at 6.

Part of me is hoping this will be the third year in a row where McKenzie has to defer to Craig Button because he has nothing prepared on a Flames 1st round pick.

God I hope not.: it would be pretty bad if they had no clue who the 4th overall pick was.

Can't believe I'm getting involved in this.

There are öff-the-board"picks.

Nobody is arguing that there is a giant board somewhere that the GMs all look at. The term ""off-the-board" is simply that. A term. It is sports jargon. It means a guy is drafted a lot higher than he was ranked by scouting services and media "ëxperts".
No one is trying to say that there is a literal board. It's a figure of speech!

The poster above that post mentioned Kanzig, I mentioned Kanzig in my post. Our two posts happened in succession of each other. I was probably referring to that post and Kanzig, not yours.

The 'board' is for fans when we watch the draft and projections are made and changed throughout the year. Organizations (except Edmonton) don't care about it. I like the board, as a fan.

So, yes there is a board. It just depends on your perspective.

We have heard Conroy and Burke mention Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Reinhart, Bennett and Ekblad as being the top kids in the draft.

So, yes - the Flames have a board - and there it is. There is a board with 5 players named, and we have the 4th choice.

I met this lady from Hollywood,
she had green hair but damn she looked good.
I took her to my house 'cause she was fine,
But she whooped out a dick that was bigger than mine.

Who was that?
