Dustin Penner was criticized and made fun of much more than Buf.
Jarome Iginla is praised as a leader and a role model for anyone - including white players and fans!
It is a fail of an article trying to make an issue of where there really is not much of one. Sure, racism happens from time to time - but in each of those cases, race had little if anything to do with those examples. I just don't see it.

What a stupid article by Proteau. There's no reason to try to play the race card. Anyone who acts like Subban will be criticized. Phil Kessel is the most shy star in the NHL and he's been roasted by the media for years,

People hate Subban because he is a yappy little ####, not because he is black.

Of course race plays some part. It's foolish to argue otherwise. How much part, I dunno. And how much is played up by the media, like the weak story that starts this thread. But Google Subban and racism, and you can read about 5000 other articles. This one, I think, is very good.

Players are always the ones to take the heat when they make guarantees about victories or comments about the quality of another team or whether a celebration is deemed acceptable. But they're not the ones seeking out microphones and recorders. Reporters, who should take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror about their agendas, are just as responsible for perpetrating this type of commentary about Subban.

I think the use of the work 'Thug' is definately coded language a lot of the time. People calling Kane a 'Thug' is definately a racist statement. However, people calling Emery a thug I think get a pass. He is a thug in terms of how he plays hockey. Fits right in beside Bertuzzi.
For Subban I don't think that it is racially motivated. I think he gets treated very similar to the way Phaneuf did. These young, high ego, high skill guys are going to get put down in the media regardless of colour.
I think that dismissing the idea that racisim exists in hockey would be wrong as you only have to go back to someone throwing a banana at Wayne Simmonds but to suggest the narritive around these players is driven buy their skin colour I believe is false.

Wow. I think Proteau needs to dust off his dictionary and re-educate himself on the definition of racism. His article effectively states in it's insinuations that any and all critiques on players of colour are, by definition, racism.
I didnt think you could be that shortsighted and still get published anymore.

Crap like this degrades the actual discussion on race issues. Leave the discussion on race for more appropriate times, don't wear out the message.

So just remember - all you ardent Crosby haters are BlueNoserististists. Shame on you all for basing an opinion or feeeeling of a player based on a slew of things that piss you off, justified or otherwise. Please remember to consider EVERYTHING about a player before judging. Your opinion could draw the ire of anyone who has an axe to grind! All Nova Scotians should be in the streets with pitchforks when anyone slights their native son. Duh. Freeking duh article. Sooo makes a mockery of real race issues in sport and in life.

Any more? From what I can tell, media is becoming less and less about digesting things for the public and more and more about telling people what they want to hear or what the media owners what you to hear.

Had to check out what happened to Moon...
What the hell is going on in here? Has anyone watched the Chris Rock video clip that started the N-word tangent?
Moon's comments are entirely within the context of the Chris Rock video.
Too many people complaining about crap they don't understand. Too many trigger happy mods. This place just got a whole lot dumber. Moon annoyed the hell out of me sometimes, but if he gets banned over this then I am done here.

I guess they are entirely within context of the Chris Rock video (although I would argue that Evander Kane doesn't even come close to fitting Chris Rock's definition, so in fact moon usage is extremely racist), but a black comedian discussing the use of the n word vs. a white dude on a message board is entirely different. Chris Rock as a comedian and a black man is allowed to call other black men the n word (whether he should is another question). People love to use this Chris Rock bit as proof they are allowed to use the slur. 1. They ignore the Chris Rock bit that says that white people can't use it unless they are rapping along with a song. 2. Chris Rock retired this bit because white people were using it to support the claim they were allowed to use the word. So even Rock himself believed that people shouldn't be using his "context" to throw around the slurs.
So I guess my question to you (and anyone else who uses this bit to justify dropping the n word) is have you ever paid attention to anything else Chris Rock has said about race?

A very long time coming. Won't miss the guy or his lame arguments. The guy got off on being contrary to the general consensus on just about every subject. Was here to disturb the ####e and he enjoyed it. Glad discussions won't be "mooned" any more.

He'll be back Eddy Beers. I agree with everything you've said, but there is no denying he was educated in his contrary opinions.
One less lightning rod for CP, and I'll miss him.
It will be tough for him to go under the radar as a returning poster but I look forward to trying to out him.

What happened is this: I went back into an old thread about Evander Kane wherein a poster produced the Chris Rock clip in question. This was the comment that poster included.
"I hope Evander Kane grows out this stage of adolescence pretty soon because the stuff he does reminds me of 3:20 of this act..."
This is the exact moment when Rock says 'N-words love to keep it real. Real dumb'. To me, if you want to say there's nothing racial motivating that statement, you're crazy.
Moon disagreed.

...and was really happy that Backes had been injured by Seabrook, and responded with "If true, awesome!" upon hearing that Kieth was saying "wakey wakey" to Backes.
Like resolute said, he was taking over every thread in the FOI forum that night, and it was painfully obvious what he was doing.

Seriously, I don't like Backes, I LOVE the Hawks (Keith especially) and even I couldn't bring myself to think some of the things he did.
The amount of players he felt the need to call "POS" without any cause was completely ridiculous.

Yeah everyone knows Moon was a freak for logic and whenever someone failed to communicate logically, he couldn't help himself.
I can see some logical gaps in this thread around the Chris Rock act. Of course Moon can't resist.
Unfortunately for Moon, this particular act has subjects referred to as N-words (by Chris Rock). Moon should have known that, since he was talking to people with fuzzy logic, people would misinterpret his comments about the subject to be racist comments of his own. I am embarassed to see that his head has been abruptly chopped off by the authorities based on all this fuzzy logic.
Now... I forget all the literary terms so help me out... Have I just described the Tragedy of Moon? Is Moon's infatuation with logic his "tragic flaw" that ultimately leads to his own demise? Is it "ironic" that someone so obsessed with correcting people's logic is killed off by people who have judged him based on fuzzy logic? Hmmm...
