I'm not saying I go to these places for girls. I was 18 for a whole year and I figured out pretty quickly what type of girls are there.

Agreed. Some of them are so well educated they know what a Panerai is. Since I spot a couple of those watches, I get a lot of attention from "gold diggers."

I have shaggy hair and wear hawaiian shirts with jeans and sneakers. Why don't they come after me?

I'm a little curious as to why some of you guys give them so many chances to turn you away.
If some business wouldn't deal with me because I'm a whitey there is no goddamn way I'd ever go back to try again and I'd spend a small portion of my time telling everyone I know about their policies.

I havent been to any of these bars but when I was young and all your friends are going to one place, that is where you want to go. This is why they keep going back. Its the PLACE to be. If all your friends are there then, of course thats where you want to go.

Well it could be because they are getting turned away at a variety of establishments, hence the whole, racism is prevalent deal.
Am I right?

Well, my answer to that is you can't go anywhere you want anytime you want. If a private club doesn't want to let you in, you take your business elsewhere, regardless of whether it's the PLACE to be or not. It's unfortunate for that person, but too bad for them.

Absolutely right.
The anger is due to the REASONS they're turning us away. Sure, if I went to a job interview and was rejected because I was Chinese, I could go and apply somewhere else, but it's the reason they rejected me which ****es me off.

You seem to have this idea in your head that it's okay for bars to practice racial discrimination because it's their bar, they can let in whoever they want. It doesn't work that way though -- the practice is illegal.
That's why they make up all those lame excuses instead of saying "no brown people" or even putting up a sign.

One thing I've always wondered, and this is a question for any minorities out there who this has happened to- is how do you react?
Have any of you guys told the bouncer you think they're racist? Or stated that? Just curious.

In some ways, I wish it WERE legal to do that. Then we could find out who the real scuzzy people are in society and openly mock and belittle them for still living in the 18th century. Political correctness, discrimination laws, etc. just hide people's true feelings for risk of being fined, jailed, shut down, and what not.
As a person of ethnic heritage, it would sure be nice to know which bars and clubs are worth my time, and which are run by racist *******s.

They have a duty to their clients to keep them relatively safe in those establishments.
Sure it isn't fair for 99% of the Asians that get turned away at the door who aren't going to cause trouble. But what if they let anyone in and a gang member decides to spend the night there? Maybe he sees a rival gang member and they decide to open fire or start stabbing one another. We all know this goes on and it is all over the news. I think the clubs need to take a certain amount of preventative measures to keep this out of their clubs. I don't think that is racism it is reality.
Sure white guys start fights and cause trouble as well. However most of the serious incidents are Asian gang related and to a lesser degree middle eastern related. If you go back and look at all the stabbings and shootings and really serious incidents in the last year at clubs tell me how many are "asian gang related".
Racial profiling exists in our society. Sometimes I think it is neccesary. Maybe not fair, but neccesary. Do you think airport security is going to be a little more cautious with an Arab man than a white woman? You bet your ass they are, and I am happy about it. It provides safety for all the other passengers, and for the innocent Arab people travelling as well.
I don't go to the clubs that often anymore but if I was in a club with a bunch of Asian gangsters I would think twice about going back. I would honestly not feel completely safe. I don't need to be caught in the crossfire of a drive by shooting.
Be upset with the gangsters and troublemakers who have seemed to ruin it for their whole race. It is racial profiling and most times it isn't fair but sometimes it is a neccesary evil.
I know this post may come across as racist but I sincerely hope it doesn't. I just see the realities out there that exist and the measure people are taking to prevent them.
I don't totally want to let the bars of the hook either. They can be real pricks when it comes to letting people into the club. Many times if they just don't like the look of you they won't let you in which isn't cool at all.
|
In my opinion, there are numerous other methods which could be used to prevent violence in the clubs and ensure the safety of a club's patrons. The method they currently use -- you are Asian, sorry not welcome -- is the cheapest, but not best solution to the problem.
I'm sorry, but justifying the act of blanketing an entire race of people because of the actions of some is racism. Plain and simple, really.

how many fights or other violence still happens in clubs just by white people or the people they are not profiling? Not letting certain ethinic people in clubs is not anywhere near the right answer to the problem.

I dont like it any more than the next guy as you can see in my previous posts, however, this happens to white people aswell, so its not just a minority issue.
About 6 years ago there was about 15 of us going to Cowboys. We were all dressed fairly the same. But my one buddy who happens to be about 350 lbs and not the best looking guy in the world was not aloud in because the bouncer did not like his foot wear. (no different than the rest of us). They just want rich good looking people to go to these places. If you show up with 5 hot chicks your in no prob.

In a slight tangent, I can only hope someone of a high enough profile and "colored" gets denied entry to one of these craptacular bars, and raises holy hell about it. Kind of like when Secret Service Agents on the Presidential detail were denied service at a Denny's, and put a well known but unspoken issue, on the front pages of US newspapers.

Happend to me in Vancouver. Went to a club with my 2 white friends and we got denied beacause the big Russian bouncer said "you dont have the *****es, you cant come in"
Basically you dont have a bunch of hot girls with you for the other guys in the club you are not getting in.

I can't believe there are people on here denying that this has anything to do with racism. You people are so blind, it's not even funny.
I have had bouncers even admit to me that they weren't letting me in because of my colour. I guess they were part of the Global news conspiracy too, right?
It doesn't matter how well I dress, how polite I am, how old I am, if they don't want me in, they'll find some excuse that makes absolutely no sense.
And contrary to what some here think, this is a big deal to some of us. Getting denied because of the colour of my skin has been the most angering and embarassing experience of my life, and at times made me ashamed to be a born and raised Calgarian.
There have been nights where I was physically forced out of line by the bouncers because I insisted that they gave me the real reason for not letting me in. I have wanted to go back and beat the **** out of those guys, but don't have it in me. This is a huge deal to many Calgarians and that's why it's the top story on the news.

Did you even read what was being said? My comments (which were then echoed) were simply that a Global news story by itself is not proof.
You say you have been discrimanted against; fine. But how often is it? I'm sure the negative events stand out for you. But if you are denied entry at the same rate as white people who have said they get denied entry, it isn't discrimination.
All I'm saying is that the race card can, at times, be brought out far too quickly. Like in IHH's example:

I read the article, and their food took a very long time to arrive. I would say that at Denny's, it is a relatively common occurance for food to take a long time. Who here goes there when they are in a hurry?
Once again, if I was a betting man I would place my money on the fact that some clubs do discriminate. But let's have the whole story.
At any point, did Global say exactly how many bars they tried, and exactly how many they were allowed into and how many they weren't?
My signature is a classic example of how not having enough info can lead you to false conclusions. Goto www.dhmo.org and have a look around. They make all sorts of claims that would make some people wonder why something isn't being done; until you see that Dihydrogen Monoxide is the chemical name for water.

Yeah, they said the guys made it into one (Cowboys) out of six (Roadhouse, Tantra, Mynt, Coyotes and the Whiskey) bars.
