Every time I see this video (about 5x already), I can't stop having visions of Sam Reinhart on a line with him. Two guys with incredible vision, playmaking ability, and finishing ability. They both make high-level quick plays in tight that is so very rare to see.

Would be awesome to have that for sure. Monahan-baertschi following up Reinhart-gaudreau... Teams will spinning with a one-two punch like that.

On the strength of this video, this kid is going to be as big a star as we've ever had. Screw putting the cart before the horse, I want to be able to say I was in on this from the beginning.

On offence when desperate he likes to find the most open area and dump the puck there. Like a mosquito he seems to hover in that same open area on the defensive side, since the other team players like to do the same. Pucks always find a way to bounce to that open area.

Getting the puck in the scrum is fine to get possession of it, but you probably won't do much other than a pass or dump, but if you can get the puck in an area where everyone is 3 strides away, you(he) can get up to speed and a good chance will come.

It is human nature to be drawn to the mass of people fighting for the puck as you see in timbits where it has to be driven out of kids until the day they die. He, at times is weirdly far away from that on the defensive side.

I'm curious at how it will work in the NHL and if a coach will let him get away with it.
Ummm isn't that what some would call cherry-picking?

Johnny and Agostino battling for a puck @ the Prudential Center in NJ for the state championship in 2010. 7-2 Delbarton (agostino) beat Gloucester Catholic (Gaudreau) both had points in the game

Now they both have National Championships and Both Signed By Calgary this year, and both scored there first NHL point in the month of April..... little did i know I was watching 2 future NHLers playing against each other at a NJ state championship

I look forward to your shift-by-shift video of Johnny's 2014-15 season.

I've always understood "cherry picking" to be hanging around center ice lackadaisically waiting for an outlet pass instead of backchecking.

He'll be playing for the US at the WC in May, we'll get to see him play for a couple weeks.

He has been a star at every level since people started calling him small, I suspect in 2-3 years you will be right.

You need to watch him more closely, in the defensive zone he seems to hover around his man instead of sticking on him and he comes out of no where to make a defensive play if needed, but if his team gets the puck he's gone up ice creating odd man rushes. and make no mistake, he's already "elite" at taking a pass in full flight.

I'm excited to see Russel and Brodie catch on to his moves and feeding him.

Oops that was meant to say what a tease, not what a trade

But yes I'm excited to see him in World Championships too (as long as he actually plays and isn't benched)

They'd be insane to bench Johnny.

Crazy prediction time: Johnny will lead the tournament in point/game scoring.

Best part is that Monahan's best offensive attribute is a quick accurate release... Perfect compliment to a guy like gaudreau who can make fast, perfect passes and has eyes in the back of his head.
