His last facebook status was "dread and the fugitive mind- the world needs a hero"
8 hours before the murder.

I actually, don't think it does matter.
It appears we have a different view of new and news worthy. I am disgusted by the amount of times the media pulls uninvolved/fringe individuals into matters.
I will leave it at that.

I completely agree it's not relevant, but it seems to be what the media go after as they look for their own evidence and reasons. And the media goes after it because people want to know so they can draw their own conclusions. Why would someone go to a party and murder 5 people? Surely it must have something to do with their parents and how they were raised.

Not to play armchair internet detective, but that's likely unrelated to anything. He was probably just posting the song he was listening to at the time:

The fact he's still alive means we might get an answer as to why, but even then I'm not sure any answer will be sufficient. Just does not make sense. Mental illness will obviously bring about the insanity defense, but bringing a knife, even if it wasn't the weapon, is pretty clear pre-meditation. It would be pretty tragic if he avoided jail.

I'd say it has more to do with giving what identifying info they can at that point. Maybe they aren't allowed to release the name until he is officially charged, but they are able to release info like the father is a cop.
That way when I ask myself "is that so-and-so?"- I know it isn't based on knowing that so-and-so's father works at Sobey's; and isn't a cop.

It's a Megadeath song. Lyrics make that post a curious choice for a status before a mass murder:
Quote:
Let me introduce myself I'm a social disease
I've come for your wealth leave you on your knees
No time for feeling sorry, I got here on my own
I won't ask for mercy, I choose to walk alone
What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine too
If you shake my hand better count your fingers
What if I do get caught? What if there is no judgment?
If I'm right I lose nothing, if you're right I lose it all
I ought to get caught because I'm doing something wicked
I'm guilty haunted by my fear and the only consequences
Are Dread and the Fugitive Mind

I think premeditation and mental illness can go together pretty easily. Some insane people are incredibly intelligent and calculating.
Again, with the example of the Greyhound bus killer, that was also premeditated.

I go to U of C and I have never awaken to so much distress in my life. I didn't have my phone near me when I was sleeping but when I finally picked it up I had about 15 different people checking to see if my friends and I were okay. I was staying at my buddies house only about 2 or 3 blocks from where it happened so I'm in quite a lot of shock today. One of my friends was at that house earlier in the day and I'm so thankful he wasn't there when it went down. As terrible as it is, I hope no one I know was affected by it and at the same time I feel like sh*t knowing so many others are going to be deeply affected by this. My condolences go out to their families, friends, and everyone else who is mourning the loss of these people.

Being a metal fan has no correlation to murderous thoughts or unstable mental conditions. In fact, research into music tastes have shown that people who enjoy metal are most similar in personalities to those who enjoy classical music.
Really doubt that posting lyrics about megadeath on Facebook has anything to do with the events that happened later that day. I find most people like posting lyrics and song names to show what music they like, and to "sound deep", that's about it.
