Where is your brother anyway?

Helping Hand: Always looking out for the best for the Players, you’re ready and able to assist those in need of help. You can prevent any fatal attacks from coming to a target of your choice each night.

You may have to deal with your new defense partner Jay Bouwmeester and his sometimes odd habits now, but you can count on him to help out in a pinch. You’ll need your pairing’s strength now to help bring an end to this lockout.

5 Minutes for Boarding: You can take someone out of the play by slamming them into the boards, causing them to be unable to perform their night actions (if they have any). This has its inevitable consequences, so you’ll only be able to do this once. Thankfully, you can do this a second night and Bouwmeester will carry it out for you.

You want to do whatever you can to help with the current lockout situation even while being out of commission, so the Players Association has given you a special task.

Comm Network: You have been given the devices necessary to communicate with fellow injured teammate Henrik Zetterberg (played by Blaster86) at any time. You know with 100% certainty that he is aligned with the Players, and he knows the same of you. You are permitted to talk outside the thread with him (and no one else, of course).

Pumping Tires: When things aren’t going well, use your way with words and sense of humour to make those around you feel better. You are able to communicate with fellow goaltender Tim Thomas (played by undercoverbrother) at any time. You know with 100% certainty that he is aligned with the Players, and he knows the same of you. You are permitted to talk outside the thread with him (and no one else, of course).

You’d do what?!: You have the power to interact with all the players every night! Doesn’t sound too tough, right? You may send me a message to post to all the players in the morning in the flavour text. Perhaps a warning, a joke, or anything else you want to say as long as it doesn’t break the rules. Try to keep the message to 15 words if possible.

They’re always involved in stuff like...nevermind.

Pumping Tires: You weren’t aware it was your job to pump someone else’s tires. Unfortunately, you don’t get a say in the matter this time. For better or worse, you are able to communicate with fellow goaltender Roberto Luongo (played by wood) at any time. Hockey Sense: You have an uncanny ability to read the play on the ice and put yourself in the best situation to score goals. This extends outside hockey as well. During the night, you can choose a player to watch and see who was targeting them. You won’t be able to see exactly what they did to that player, however.

Enforcer: Take advantage of your strength and help out a teammate. Each night, you can choose to get in the way of a fatal attack against a player of your choice. If the player was actually targeted for a fatal attack, this will cause you to suffer critical injuries that you will never recover from. You will die the next morning, but your target will survive.

Chirping: Your way with words is legendary. You always have a witty reply to any positive or negative comment directed your way. Because of this, you feel like you must always be a part of the conversation. At the end of each day, you must be in the top 6 post counts in the thread or your night action will fail. Do not spam to increase your postcount! You cannot disclose this restriction to others.

I changed the post restriction for Delgar to make 10 posts each game day as there would be no way for him to meet the original goal.

You were feeling great when the lockout started, and you’re worried that the chances it will stay that way are diminishing the longer the lockout happens.

Hot Streak: Turn on the heat and you become a force to be reckoned with. At night you may choose to target a player and they will unable to carry out any actions during the following night. As an example, if you pick someone on Night 1, they won’t be blocked until Night 2. As the hot streak is then used up, you must wait until the following night (Night 3 in the given example) to get another Hot Streak and continue the cycle.

Cold Streak: On the nights you’re waiting for your Hot Streak to return (Night 2 in the previous example), you’re only able to post a message that will appear as flavour the next morning. Perhaps a warning, a joke, or anything else you want to say as long as it doesn’t break the rules. Try to keep the message to 15 words if possible.

Hard Work Pays Off: Even if they ignore what you say occasionally, you will be able to do something to help in this lockout...even if they don’t know you did. By sheer determination, you are able to cast a vote against a player every night, before the next day has even started! Your vote is secret and will show up in vote counts during the next day, but will not be linked to you. If the player you target dies during the night, the effect will fizzle out.

Detective Work: You are willing to do whatever it takes to protect your teammates during a game. Once per night, you can investigate a target and determine their alignment. If your target ends up being aligned with you (Players), then you will be less certain of your skills. If your investigations turn up three Players, then you will no longer be able to use this night action.

Night on the Town: This lockout business is stressful! You can retreat from the proceedings for a night, take your mind off things and enjoy a few beverages. During your night out, no one will be able to target you with any abilities. Since the other players will be upset with you for running out on them for a night, you will only be able to do this once.

“Just some late night filing”: Your lines in commercials are corny, but always memorable. You must be writing those things for yourself! Every night, you must write an amusing and topical post restriction for another player in the game. Try to be funny and relevant as much as possible, as a particularly uninspired post restriction may fail to activate this ability. Nothing can prevent your post restriction from being implemented, nor can any ability tamper with it. If your target dies, a new target will be chosen at random, and the post restriction may be reworked slightly at my discretion. This lockout could potentially ruin another chance for you to hold the Cup, so you will do whatever it takes to make sure that hockey returns as soon as possible.

Aggressive Nature: You can elevate the play of your teammates when the going gets tough. Each night, you can target a player and boost their confidence. This will prevent anyone from being able to stop their abilities.

Blueline Stalking: You can hang back and make sure your zone is covered in case of a turnover. This allows you to watch what is happening from a distance. Each night you can target a player and learn who, if anybody, that player targeted during that night. You won’t be able to discern what actions they took, however.

Your skills will come in handy during this lockout, as the players look to you for help off the ice as well.

Power Shot: Your shots from the blueline are the stuff of legends. Players try their best to stay away from you when you wind up. You’ve even shot pucks through netting! You possess the ability to fatally shoot one player during the course of the game. To do so, you must make a post containing Kill: and the player’s name to kill them with one of your power shots. Left for Dead: Many have counted Phoenix out and assumed the Coyotes would leave for years. You know a thing or two about teams dying. During the night, you can scan a dead player to confirm their alignment. You are able to use this ability only once during the course of the game. Choose your target wisely!

Growing Fandom: As time passes, more and more people take notice of you and your abilities. If you survive to Day 3, you will be given a random ability to use at night. However, each night you will receive post restrictions leading up to Day 3 to account for this. Failure to follow these post restrictions means your ability will be delayed a Day further. You are not allowed to explicitly reveal to anyone else that you are under a post restriction.

Your Day 1 post restriction is that you must discuss a junior hockey player much in the way Peter Loubardias or Jeff Marek might do on air in every post. Be excited about these guys! Reel off some trivial information no one really cares about!

Funny seeing that the mafia were given fake player names

Giving CC Sheifele and Sliver/Delgar Bissonette was cruel

Too and seeing strombad killed early, he had a great ability

Yeah, if I could go back I would give more random player names to people than just some who played prominent lockout roles plus a few randoms.

Yeah, when I saw it I knew I was kind of boned, I mean I kept saying I'm a player I'm Mark Sheifele, and everyone was like, why would anyone state that name, kill him.

Then I had to talk like Arnold and everyone thought I'd gone nuts

Yeah, I think those of us that weren't able to participate after the first day or two may have slightly different feelings on "letting others have a chance" when we didn't really participate ourselves lol.

How about if you make the returning posters mafia and let the newbies play as townsfolk?
That way only a few returning players can join?

Then go ahead and sign up! As I've said before, I'm not a huge fan of restricting people from signing up, even though spots might fill up fast. If others want to give new players a chance to sign up, then they're welcome to do that. I will put a note to that effect in the signup thread.

Mazrim would it be bad form or detrimental to the game if a side thread was made for non-players to discuss and spitball?

That way if you were not in the game you can still be involved in a non player community discussion.

We could probably get an invite only board going similar to the dead members thread that we could use to comment.

I think it would be bad form to let the players see the thread though.

I wouldn't let your time zone deter you, there didn't seem to be a really strong pattern in when the action tended to happen. Sometimes it was morning, sometimes mid-afternoon, sometimes late evening. There's always the risk that things might happen quickly while you're away, but that's true even if you're on MST.

I would be open to the idea of a side thread for specific people who want to discuss, but I'm definitely worried about the people in the game finding it. Normally with a mafia game, it's radio silence outside the thread for good reason. The only way I would be comfortable with the idea would be to only invite those people from the first game who aren't in the second one, and that's it. I also probably wouldn't share player role information in there like I did in the dead players thread.

This solution isn't totally fair to others on CP who haven't played but want to discuss it, but we're not far enough along here that I can safely say someone wouldn't try to get an edge by finding/being given the link to a private thread.

devo22: Time zone shouldn't be a huge issue for you, as the discussion normally stretches out through the days. Like octothorp said, there can be some big bursts of action but that affects everyone.
