His trade value is no harder to pin down than any other prospect's... it is a simple case of what would someone pay and what would the Flames accept?
And only a fool would accept a 2nd rounder for Gaudreau.
His value is a similar high-end (likely high risk, high reward) prospect in return.

Clearly you missed my point when I said it depends on the situation.
If for some reason he chooses not to sign with the Flames and it becomes public knowledge only a fool would turn down a 2nd rounder for Gaudreau because his value would drop exponentially.
But at this point in time you are correct, it would be stupid to trade him for a 2nd.

This isn't that complicated. There is just a lot of noise. Gaudreau is Flames property. Gaudreau has developed as much as he can in College. Gaudrea is focused on a hockey career and the best thing for that career is to go pro this season. The only team he can go pro with this season is the Calgary Flames. Out of context statements or Eric Francis's intentionally controversial articles are just noise distracting from the basic facts.
If he decides to waste a season of development to complete his senior year than the conversation changes. But my expectation is that common sense will get through and he will do the right thing for his hockey career. If, for whatever reason, it doesn't we can change the conversation then.

Johnny Gaudreau admits he has been wrestling with his decision.
"It's tough," Johnny Gaudreau said. "My mom really wants me to stay, and I want her to be comfortable with my decision. I feel like either will be a good decision for me."

Small players have to be quick, smart, and mentally strong. He's definitely the first two, the second one will come with time, but he definitely rises to the occasion. He's got the skill, and I think that Burke's desire for a big, tough team to play against works in Johnny's favour. If he's got Monahan and a guy like Ferland or Poirier on his line, that's a skilled, speedy group with some muscle (Poirier). You'll be less focussed on trying to squish Gaudreau than you are on not letting him make you look like a fool. (This is in the future)

His dad's comment about playing for nothing is hugely interesting. To me, that sounds like a pretty bold, albeit indirect, dedication to the Flames.

God I am sick of posts like this. Such a fresh approach. We get it, he gets it, he's a small player.

Except he followed it up by saying Johnny would play it anyways if it was the right thing to do. He's signing with Calgary either way though

Couldn't find where but I remember reading that the Flames were offered 1sts for him from a few different teams at last year's draft.

Great local story on Johnny. I got my train ticket, game ticket, beer, Johnny hockey shirt, flames hat, and food packed for a 10am 20min trip to Philly to support Johnny.

So mods can ask me for my source and i can provide, but a friend of mine told me that he talked with Brian Burke yesterday and asked him about Johnny. Burke said right to him that Johnny would be in the line up Sunday night vs the Canucks.
Take it for what its worth but those were the words out of his mouth.
