That was back in the 80s and we knew hours ahead of time of price increases coming. It wasn't hard to change the sign at 1:00, then change the pumps at 2:00.

I just filled up for $1.17 and beat the price markup. Takes a day before the price change in Calgary hits High River

Inside my head I want to unleash every time she pretends to act and say a line in her stupid tone and pronuuuuuuunciation.

So the wife and I are having dinner at Joeys on Saturday, obviously not upscale or anything, but nice enough, whatever.
Not too long after we sit down, the table across from us clears out and is filled with a couple (in their 30's probably) and a young kid (maybe 4-6?). They don't look trashy, but maybe a little bit underdressed for the vibe, but no big deal. The guy is hefty, scraggly mohawk, kind of a biker vibe to him. They seem to enjoying themselves, we're enjoying ourselves, the kid if playing with his ninja turtle toy, it's alllll good. I overhear him tell the kid "Nobody will want to play with you if you're like that." Thought it was odd, but maybe the kid was acting up, I didn't notice and it wasn't really my business to care.
Then, out of nowhere for whatever reason, we notice them again because the guy starts losing it. All of a sudden, he's pounding the table, a consistent stream of F-this and F-that just flowing right out, yelling at his girlfriend/wife and just spewing cruel, hateful speech right in front of this little kid. Some of it is about the DUMBEST stuff you've ever heard, "I didn't order the f'n steak because I didn't f'n want steak!" and "Your family is f'n blah blah blah". Obviously, the girl gets mad and the kid gets upset and she has to take him away for a bit to calm down as this guy is just letting the both of them have it.
Guys like that just grind my gears. What a complete and utter waste of skin. An adult man who has gone through the effort to make himself look like a tough guy throwing a temper tantrum fit for a small child without enough human decency not to verbally abuse the lady right in front of their kid. It makes me sad really, because if he's like that in public, what's he like at home?
Some people just disgust me. What a sorry excuse for a man.

Gas talk reminds me of the time I once filled up at the Shell by the University on 16th.
Numbers are a bit fuzzy, but I think gas was $1.07/L. Filled up my truck, business as usual. Grab the receipt and head home.
I get home and pull out the receipt and notice that I was only charged like $7. Thought maybe I somehow thought that gas was pumping and I filled up but really only 7 bucks of gas came out and I stood there for 10 mins like an idiot.
Look at the receipt again and it showed the price of gas at $0.107/L instead of $1.07! Some sort of mistake at the station I guess and I got gas at 90% off. Felt a bit guilty, but I was between jobs at the time and that was a welcome break in a lame week. Wonder how much money they lost that day or if I was the only one. Hope no one was fired.
Now I can tell my kids that when I was their age, I paid 10 cents a litre for gas! And I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. So all I had was a big yellow one...

Chinook. He was definitely loud enough that we weren't the only ones to hear it, but wait staff were nowhere to be seen for about 5 minutes before and after.
It was pretty brutal.

When I worked nights at a gas station (between other jobs), it was always changed around 7pm...'cause that's just before the last manager with the key to the office to change sign/pump prices got off work and the office was locked up for the day. He'd change the prices, make sure the change took, lock up and hit the road.

The gargantuan sinkhole that blocks off the route I use to drive to school really grinds my gears.
Actually, what really GMG's is the fact that they haven't fixed it after nearly a week. I first noticed the dip last Tuesday. City crews put up road blocks and mesh fencing on Saturday, but no infilling has occurred yet and there's just this gaping hole in the middle of my street adding an extra 3-5 minutes to my route.

Just making a total scene, and trying to bring some other guy in on it.." That guy out there is also coming in to demand the same thing (Guy's just out there pumping his gas, as he likely just nodded his head so she'd stop talking to him).
Just embarrassing, making a total scene and shouting. The immigrant lady at the till, who can only kind of speak English is just all polite and not getting upset or anything. Probably just thinking "****, another psycho white woman who can't control herself over the littlest thing. Give her one year in home country and she'd pray for the day when this was the worst thing to happen in a day".
I don't get public outbursts, I honestly don't. I understand a little arguing or putting your foot down when service is bad. But acting out like a teenager (and not trying to be that guy, but more often than not it's middle aged women involved in these embarrassing attempts at publicly humiliating and berating another human being) is just so odd.

just curious... had she already filled up and was just trying to get a full tank of gas for free, or even at the old price?
if she did then she should pay more attention to what the actual price at the pump is. maybe i'm weird, but i always make note of the price in my head before i start to fill up, just to make sure i didn't accidentally hit the wrong octane button on the pump
if she hadn't filled up, couldn't you just cancel it at the pump. if that didn't work, just put in 1 cent of gas, then put the nozzle back and drive away
maybe she just wanted to feel like a rock star?? (is green text needed for that? i hope not!!)

Ahh yes, my wife is a big fan of Bones as well. I've seen enough of it that I now know the characters names and such, which actually makes a fun game out of coming up with alternate story lines.
"This week on bones, agent Booth and Bones are interviewing daycares for their daughter, only there's been a murder! Using only the tools available in a typical daycare Bones must solve the murder before nap time!"

There are quite a few shows that I watch and others that my wife watches. I usually give shows a couple of episodes and if I don't like them and she does, we still PVR them and she watches when she has time and I watch shows I record form myself when she is out with friends or whatever.
No reason you should watch it if you don't like it. Let her watch it and go do something else for an hour or 40 minutes if it is PVR'd.

Aren't most stations using the LED display prices? Wouldn't it be easy to change both at the same time from a computer inside the store?
I know in Vancouver, generally the cheapest time to buy gas is around 9pm. Gas stations will bump their pricing on stations on the right side of the road slightly on the way into downtown in the morning, and coming out of downtown after work hours. It may grind your gears, but gas stations are trying to make a profit. You may get ticked off, but are you going to stop buying gas? And if gas goes up by 3 cents from before, are you really out a lot of money. I have an X5, and if it goes up by 3 cents, I think I have to pay an additional $2.50 for a full tank of gas. I'm okay with that.
I've met one of the guys for a gas company who influences the prices of what gas is sold for. He has access to all of his stations and can show how much more each store will make by varying the price, even by tenths of a cent.

Superstore gas stations GMGs. At least the ones in Grande Prairie do. I am not sure if it applies to all gas stations.
They seem to be full of rules and employees who seem to take joy in enforcing them.
Check your email at the pump and the pump will slow to a stop. When you squeeze the pump again the voice comes over the intercom "You can't use your phone at the pump, please put it away and I will restart the pump"
If all the left hand pumps are full and you dare to drive around to the other side they say nothing until you have the pump ready to go and then lecture you about only pulling into the pumps from the right side before telling you that they won't turn them on until you turn around.
I won't use them anymore and that seems to be a common theme among men in town. Women are apparently perfectly capable of following the rules in the first place and thus not concerned with the issue.

No, I don't think so. Idiots in Calgary talk on their cell phones, despite the obvious signage, all the time and the pumps seem to still operate.

I had some guy flip out on me the other day as I was checking my email on my phone while pumping gas. He told me to "read the F-ing sign!"
To bad Co-op removed all those signs; after it was determined it wasn't cell phone use that caused the danger. The danger is going back into your vehicle to use your phone. (And their signs say not go back into your vehicle.)

So more specifically it's about not leaving the pump unattended while using your phone?
Transit Gear Grinders:
CTrain - Stop getting in closer and crowding the door. Even worse, don't try to get in when people are trying to get off. If you're in the front, you'll probably get on either way.
Bus - People who don't even put the effort to try and keep the back door open for themselves, and just barely slip through leaving people behind them fighting with a closing door. Some doors are able to open part way whole closing, others just don't seem to do so.

I think the cell phone thing has been since shown to not be a risk, but just follow the rules of whatever place you are at. Would you like it if you set up specific rules and people just ignored them? How about the "do not call list" or "no junkmail"?
Anyway the cell phone use is annoying because people forget that they are pumping gas and go into some smartphone trance while other people are waiting to use the pump. Just pump your f'ing gas and leave.

####ing anxiety grinds my gears. Comes out of nowhere - I mean I know what's causing it because I just broke up with my girlfriend and now have to find a new place to live, but it has no discernible on or off switch throughout the day - and completely eliminates my ability to do anything useful.
