If Johnny doesn't see a great long term fit in Calgary I don't know what more a team could offer. With Monahan, Arnold, all the nice prospects developing there's a nice foundation to launch a contender from. He and Monahan had instant chemistry in the prospect camp and That has to be a selling point. I still think he signs here but there will be a sense of panic until he does. The Hype is just too big surrounding him.

And you can get that sense just by seeing that even the mainstream media is picking up on this now.

“@DarrenWHaynes: I've coined a new word: "Gaudreanoia". It's a mental state characterized by exaggerated fear Johnny Gaudreau does not sign with the Flames.”

After reading the whole article it doesn't seem as bad as that one off quote did.

He would be more comfortable with Feaster, Burke likes big boys, thinks Burke likes Johnny but is not "sold" on him, Johnny always has to prove himself, etc.

Starting to be a little bit too much smoke for my liking though.

Gaudreau knows he has to prove himself anywhere and should be smart enough to realize that it would be much easier to crack our lineup than the Bruins lineup for example.

And I'd be even less ok with the Feaster firing.

I still think Johnny will sign, but it would have been nice if Burke had spent the last few months showing that he valued our top prospect rather than making booster seat jokes.

I sure hope Bob Sugar hasn't called Mr. Gaudreau.

But he did say his word was stronger than oak, so we shouldn't worry.

He might want to stop with the car seat jokes though.

I like Burke but agree. He made a joke pretty much anytime he was asked about him.

Even if you spend the next 20 minutes praising Gaudreau all people will remember is the jokes.

I think the whole "Burke likes big players" angle is exaggerated way too much. If you look at his drafting history, he drafted many small to average sized players, and even some big player that play small.

Burke knows more than anyone that it is much easier to supplement size and strength into a line-up than it is to find natural skill and talent. There is no way that Gaudreau isn't given the same opportunity that Feaster would have. If anything, Burke is more likely to at least surround Gaudreau with size to help him.

Hopefully all this big, trucculent talk will be put to rest when Burke actually sits down with Johnny and his family. Even if he wants to play on a different club, hopefully he is honest about it and let's Burke know, and doesnt leak it to the media.

That's one thing Feaster was good at, pumping tires. Probably part of the problem with Sven.

He cant until his season is complete. All this smoke is certainly concerning for the Flames organization, they are going to have to do a great sell job.

Should be all the selling required.

Getting him signed would be a great start for the sell job to Gaudreau.

Yes, his deadline is the 15th of august this year. But it's been covered more than a few times that he will in fact sign.

That quote does scare me. That said, when has Burke ever given any indication he wouldn't sign Johnny and give him a opportunity to play? The only thing he's mentioned is that Gaudreau is tiny... but so is Paul Byron (just as small as Gaudreau, actually) and he's excelling on a Burke team.
