Interesting how AV has the Rags nicely positioned for the playoffs, while Torts is coaching the Canucks to their first non-playoff season in dogs' years.

Perhaps, Vigneault wasn't the problem in Vancouver? (Although, to be fair, AV never really had to deal with the same rash of injuries as Torts has.)

But, it highlights the danger of firing a coach for not taking your club past the first round. Maybe his replacement won't even get the team into the playoffs.

Sadly, Sutter made this same mistake for Calgary years ago with the hiring of his brother.

The Rangers are also in a division with one great team (Penguins), and one okay team (Flyers). Meanwhile the Canucks are in the same division as the Ducks, Sharks, and Kings, all of which I'd say are better than any team in the Metropolitan.

Not that I want to pull out the tired ol' Darryl Sutter expression, but the Canucks would probably be a playoff team in the east.

The Canucks are 14-13-4 against the east. There are at least 10 teams in the east with a better record against the east than that. So no. Their record is pretty similar against all the divisions.

Also, the Flames have a better record against the east than the Nucks do.

I always remember a very old episode of Just for Laughs where a guy was impersonating Brian Mulrooney (told you it was an old episode). The gag went along the lines of: "We've turned the corner on jobs. We've turned the corner on the economy. We've turned the corner on crime. And we've turned the corner on the budget. Thats... four corners. Oh shi*, we're right back where we've started."

The Oilers have turned the corner on offence. They've turned the corner on defence. They've turned the corner on goaltending. And they have turned the corner on coaching. They are, ultimately, right back where they started.
