If we have Bennett I'd feel totally fine with our forwards.

I have a belief and child like wonder towards prospects that annoys some people though.

Yeah, maybe Bennett is the guy. I've grown on him over the last while, I like that he's a pitbull. I'll be happy with him or Reinhart, which probably means I'm going to be miserable on Draft day. I still want fortune and glory next year kid, fortune and glory.

Great kid to build this franchise around. May not be the highest scorer on the team each year, but has the makeup to be a leader on and off the ice. Hopefully we can all look back in 5-10 years and say "yeah, we saw all that potential back in his rookie year".

What's the projection for next year? 25 goals? 30 goals?

Never underestimate the sophomore slump. He should be a 30 goal scorer in a couple years though.

I think he still has the potential to be one of the best players from the draft.

He's 3 goals shy of Nathan McKimmon this year and a buttload of assists behind but my lord... it must be easier to put up helpers when you're consistently lining up Gabriel Landeskog and Paul Stastny. No disrespect to Joe Colborne or Lance Buoma but those are the guys Monahan lines up with and I think it's safe to say they're several notches behind.

McKimmon will probably always get more points anyways but Monahan will be the more complete player, maybe the more important one.

Hope Burke gets takes a stab at Ekblad first, and if not him, then I'd go for Bennett to add to our forward depth.

For those that think Monahan isn't capable of becoming a 1st line center is wrong. I think he is perfectly capable of becoming that first liner that we have been looking for in a long time.

Congrats on your 20th goal Monny, I hope you can reach 25! That's a stretch, but I think he just needed the 20th-goal-monkey off of his back first. Don't be surprised if he pots a few more the next couple of games.

Really liking the direction of this team. Hope Gaudreau signs, hope to see Poirier play well in the AHL, hope to see Klimchuk light it up in the WHL again (since he has another year). Hope Janko continues his development as a two-way centerman. Hope Ortio and Gillies further their development and soon become our top 2 goalies in the future. Ortio should be a solid backup that can take 25-30 games next year. I know there are plenty of more to mention, but these are the same that came to mind.

Rebuilding the proper way. Go Flames Go!

Coach Hartley said we are still allowed to watch The Walking Dead, but only because I scored my 20th goal. That was nice of him.

This is a comparison that on the surface is ripe for the picking.....but I see Mckinnon's Stamkos to Monahan's Toews.

Stamkos is flashy. Great shot, great goal scorer. A stat machine. Toews is rarely near the top of any of the prime stat lists. I don't particularly find him "flashy" per se. But he is still regarded as one of the best in the game today.

Mckinnon is racking up the points in impressive\flashy style on the upstart Avs. Monahan is quietly going about his business in "boring" but damn impressive style. Pierre Lebrun didn't even mention him in his recent blog about Calder candidates. He mentioned about 5-6 other, but not Monahan. How absurd is that? I don't think you can shoehorn Monahan into any current player comparison. If I were to come up with a super lazy hybrid comparison, it would be a Eric Stall\Jordan Stall\Jon Toews\Patty Marleau hybrid.....yeah.

And I'm just fine with all of this.

If we pick up a top 5 pick this year and one of the two franchise centers next year, I honestly think we'll be set on the front end. Burke will import the needed 'beef' through trade or the later rounds in the meantime.

The back end is already getting there, minus maybe a piece and a couple years of good development. And our goalie situation is looking bright already too.

But no matter which way the drafting shakes down, with the system and work ethic being ingrained in the team and these kids, I think we'll be poised for a run at the playoffs in 15/16

Anyways, thread is about Money. So congrats Sean. What a goal in front of friends and family in your junior town.

I haven't given this much thought and it's great it's missing potential pieces like Jankowski, Agostino, Ferland and our 1st rounder from this year (Bennett?).

The Flames have done a good job of putting together a nice collection of talented and hard working forwards.
I can see couple of these guys packaged and gone this off-season plus half of the current "unknowns" won't pan out.

Seriously doubt Burke would deal any of Gaudreau, Monahan, Poirier, Klimchuk, Granlund, Baertschi, ... actually, pretty much none of them, except for Knight or Reinhart tbh (and only because of our depth of the 3rd line/energy forward types).

Glad that I'm not Burke (or the new GM). There are going to be some tough decisions to be made with respect to whom to keep and whom to ship out in the next couple of seasons. Byron for instance - a tweener at the moment, but who is getting better and better and seems like a 'player' now. It is a very good sign that the organization has to start making these tough decisions, however. Kids not only forcing some vets out, but also forcing one another out.

Will be interesting to see how Monahan does next season. Not everyone gets hit with the sophomore slump, but it happens a lot. He may move up to 2nd line duties, but probably spends another year on the third line, but hopefully with more minutes. I think playing third line in a somewhat sheltered role would be not only beneficial for him, but for anyone else making the jump next season as well - Baertschi, Gaudreau, Poirier. Maybe they switch Granlund to a winger - Hartley sure seemed to like him as a center, but unless Stajan or Backlund are out, he will be a winger.

Will be interesting to see how Monahan does with a bit more talent on his left side. Galiardi, Bouma, etc., aren't exactly offensive talents. He could very well just continue along and exceed not only his assists, but his goals and point totals.

Next year I'd like to see two of Baertschi, Poirier, Gaudreau, Granlund become regulars (or see a large span of time) on the big team. Will be happy with the progression of the kids if this happens.

I agree. If both players reached their full potential... I could see McKinnon being comparable to Crosby in his style and what he brings to the team while Monahan being comparable to toews. Yes please!

If Burke sees franchise dman in Ekblad, I wouldn't be surprised to see our 2015 1st traded.
And I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to take part on the McDavid race anyway.

Burke already said that the Flames view the 2015 draft as a very important draft and project the Flames getting a top pick.

The top 5 talent in the 2015 draft projects to be much better than the 2014 draft.

Doubt he trades the 2015 first rounder.

There is absolutely no scenario that exists where the Flames trade the 2015 first round pick.
None

Wwll there certainly are scenarios but they are highly unlikely. If we are 1st or 2nd in the pacific next year at the deadline the pick could be in play. It is just highly doubtful we would be in that spot
