Hey you could be on to something here... a separate Dallas Eakins is no good thread...

I'm thinking I might send in my resume when they finally can Lowe or Mactavish.
Qualifications: none
Experience: none
Reason why you deserve the job: I honestly couldn't do any worse than current personnel.

did you play for the 80s oilers? also a pre requisite. And you need to know about winning, you know, in case there are any questions.

I love the guy. As long as him and Lowe are around, us Flames fans will always have something to cheer us up when we think things are not going well.

A friend bet 5 or 6 of us $20 each on Saturday that the Oilers would beat the Flames.
He paid us out half way through the second period, lol.

You might be on to something, because no executive or coach is going to want to go there because that team will wreck your career. Maybe they should look for a coach and GM via a fan contest.

I was a bit pissed that there was little acknowledgment of the positives of Calgary this year. This sort of effort has been there all season, it shows up as a come from behind win against a good team, and a blow out against Oiler teams.

Agreed. The flames seem to get little to know credit for games like that. I agree the flames work hard every night and deserve the praise they get for it. We love it as fans.
But everyone is so quick to dismiss the flames as not being as skilled as any other team in the league... It feels like no one wants to admit that they might have underestimated the talent that this flames team has. I look at Brodie, gio, backlund, hudler, monahan, and Russell as guys that are showing how talented they really are. They are all hard workers and that's a very important part of their strong season... But all those guys are examples of players whose skill was underestimated. They're making plays and decisions that are winning games both with skill and hard work.
I get tired of the "on paper, the oilers should beat the flames" comment. Why?!!! I'll take backlund over RNH... I'll take hudler or cammalleri over eberle... I'll take Monahan over Taylor hall... I'll take cammalleri with no blades on his skates over yakupov... I won't even mention the horrible defence on the oilers team cause it's not even comparable in any way to what the flames have.
Plus the flames have way more depth players that can move up and down the line up and contribute in lots of ways... Colborne, bouma, Byron, stajan, mcgrattan... Oilers have nothing close to that. And the flames have even more talent on the way that trumps the oiler prospects by a wide margin.
So I ask you... Who is really the more talented team? I'll take a properly developed and coached 24th overall pick like backlund who has great skill and a two-way game over a first overall pick like RNH who has received no effort in his development since junior.
I'm tired of the oilers talent being over-estimated while the talent of the flames is totally dismissed. People try to say "who would have thought the flames would be better than the oilers?" I did...Many of us on CP did... cause we don't fall for it every single summer over and over again like everyone on Sportscentre seems to.

Me too. We steamroll them by the largest margin in BoA history and the microscope is still on Edmonton the entire post game, and why they aren't good when they "should be" with all that "talent".
If there were anybody with sense on the panel, they'd lend a few minutes (especially after that killing) to talk about how great it is to see a team with the odds stacked against them working AS a team and accomplishing great things, even against the best in the league. Isn't that the kind of story you'd want to put out to, say, the kids watching who're in sports? You know, instead of this bashing of heads on rocks insisting that these few overpaid snobs that refuse to listen to their coach or commit to the team should be setting the league on fire. That beat was old last year. So what does it take for that to no longer be the expectation? Cause they don't look anywhere close to a team that's ready to compete to me, talent or not.
This kind of stuff is why I don't watch after hours anymore.

That's media for you. It's a story that sells, and it becomes an easy truth after a while.
Truth is, while their players as a group might have had more potential, ours as a group have already passed them in development. Troy Ward, Bob Hartley and the rest of the Flames organization deserve some of the credit for that, but mostly it's just a failure of the Oilers organization.
So yeah, honestly the Oilers are just no good. But I don't mind this storyline, because it probably benefits us and hurts them. Keep telling them that they're good, and they'll never get better.

Not quoted for accuracy but you get the gist that the Oilers need to do a full management house cleaning.
