Maybe they'll learn to grind out wins old school style. I really don't know what to expect going forward.

Although Jeff Samardzija was making his second-to-last spring training start Thursday in his preparation for Opening Day, his days as a Cub could be numbered.

At least 15 scouts, and likely closer to 25, were on hand to watch the 29-year-old right-hander work against Seattle. The Toronto Blue Jays had three scouts in attendance, including their director of professional scouting, top scout and former Cubs general manager Ed Lynch.

Aaron Sanchez was sent to minor league camp today.

Who are they thinking for the last rotation spot? It seems to be down to Rogers, Happ, and perhaps McGowan. Am I missing anyone?

Yeah, from what I've been reading over spring training, it sounds like Hutchinson being given a spot is a given (in fact, I thought I'd read something from Gibbons saying that he had a spot).

McGowan has also been doing well and wants to be in the rotation, so given the options the Jays currently have for the spot, he'd get my vote.

Oh yes Hutch has looked really good this preseason. He's got a spot.

Me too... although that move will precipitate some others. Namely what to do with JA Happ. Happ has options left but I believe he has the required MLB service time to refuse consent to minor league assignment (which he'd obviously do). So that means he'd have to go to bullpen...

Casey Janssen
Steve Delabar
Sergio Santos
Brett Cecil
Aaron Loup
Jeremy Jeffress

J.A. Happ
Esmil Rogers
Todd Redmond

... Even if you want to carry 8 relievers (and you should really only carry 7) you still have to cut at least one.

Keeping Happ is something they should do anyways. If McGowan does make the rotation, chances are he will only be able to go 4-5 innings, at least for the first little while. They will need a good long guy to pick up the slack.

Maybe it is nostalgia, but I really want McGowan to make it into the rotation.

Oh great, hope it's nothing serious:

Quote:
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes will have what the team is describing as a "precautionary" MRI on his left hamstring on Monday.

He left in the 4th inning of Saturday's game against the Tigers after experiencing tightness.

Reyes and the team still hope that he will be ready for Opening Day in Tampa Bay in one week.
Also, Goins will be the starting 2B. Gose has been optioned to Buffalo.

Jose Reyes' MRI revealed a slightly strained left hamstring; he is listed as day-to-day.

While it is a bit harder to surprise in the baseball (especially in the AL East), maybe the Blue Jays can gel together as a team and play bigger than the sum of their parts. Last year, the individual parts were better but it means nothing if they don't all come together. It's the best teams that win championships in the end not the best group of individual players.

The AL East is tough but right now all of the teams are tied in the standings. So we are tied for first!

I'm excited to see what Hutchinson can do and see if McGowan can stay healthy and produce. We still have a great offensive lineup and I've heard that we are a little better defensively as well.

There are a lot of "ifs" around the Jays right now. Sometimes, just sometimes, the ifs all work out. I hope that it happens this year.
