Satellite is better as far as a variety of stations go, but they too are ULTRA repetitive. I understand the 'play the popular' mantra that every station has, but it's still annoying.
Satellite stations aren't better, per say, just a larger selection of them.
I often find myself listening to Red Neck Radio, 770, when I am in the car. Far and away the best comedy in the radio, although I do miss Rutherford.
I listen to QR all the time. It's not even close to redneck. The afternoon guy is Dave Taylor, yeah that Dave Taylor. And the morning people are right and center. Nice try though. I know it's tough to admit that you listen to QR here on CP where you want to fit in with the cool kids. Just don't bring it up if you're embarrassed about it. It beats lying about who's on there.

Wow did someone not get enough sleep last night?
You saw where I said I missed Rutherford, or had you already gone I to a rage?
Missed, as in he is no longer on air.
I agree the station has moved more to the centre, but there are plenty of far right listeners that still call in.
Embarrassed? I ran out of give a sh*t years ago. At least you didn't come across as defensive.........

Sorry, I just get sick of the way people like to latch on to things like that and perpetuate them. And yes, I saw that you said he was gone, I was referring to the people that are on there today. Calling it redneck radio is, well, lying. So I called you out on it. Sounds like you're the one getting defensive.

So you accuse me of lying and think I am being defensive..........why ever would that be?
The station still have a huge number of "red neck" listeners, I am sure you heard about the response when one of the hosts came our in support of the city flying the rainbow flag.
So although you saw I said he was gone, you still call me out for lying about who is on the air. Calling it red neck radio is not lying it, rather it is an opinion.
Anyway rock on, big boy. Keep on calling people out and fighting the good fight.
Just to expand on the X929 thing, as I made me myself curious. If you look on their latest "playlist" page, there's 9 songs (some played twice) in their current playlist for today that are also played on AMP 90.3 and Vibe 98.5.
Maybe I'm getting out of touch as I get older, but imo if you're going to be a rock alternative station, you shouldn't be playing that many songs in a day that overlap with two top 40 pop stations.
Lorde - Royals
Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
Imagine Dragons - Radioactive X2
Lorde - Team X2
Foster The People - Coming Of Age X2
Passion Pit - Take A Walk
Capital Cities - Safe And Sound
Imagine Dragons - Demons
fun. Feat. Janelle Monae - We Are Young

On the radio thing, there is one incredibly easy solution: someone figure out a way to get Pandora working on a cell phone so I can just bluetooth it into the radio. Anyone? Ideas? Please?
Sort of solved my own problem... managed to get it working on my Android tablet so as long as I have that in the car with me I'm golden. Can't get it to work on my blackberry though. If anyone can figure out a way to cross that bridge, I'm all ears, PM me.
Also, people who do this when they're in internet fights GMG even when I have no horse in the race (never listened to 770 in my life).
That Lorde song by Royals strikes me in particular as a terrible (alternative rock) song, as does the one from fun.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I think part of the problem is that "rock music" just doesn't have as much mindshare as it used to, particularly with the 18-25 crowd. How many large scale EDM (dance music) festivals did Calgary/Edmonton have the last few summers that stations like x92.9/Cjay had nothing to do with?
So I really think it's a matter of the "rock" slice of the market pie getting quite a bit smaller... and blander in the process. Use to be Cjay could play Nickelback/ACDC all day while x92.9 could do Queens of the Stone Age/Against Me and both would still draw a reasonably sized listening audience.
But as the rock audience got smaller, the gap between their playlist got smaller and we ended up with groups Imagine Dragons/Mumford and Sons filling in the "rock" gap.
Or, basically this happened to x92.9, and they floundered.

I listen to Coast to Coast at least a few times a week. It is awesome to delve into the minds of the mentally insane. Some of the tinfoil hat mouth breathers that call in are awesome. I swear to god I heard Mikey the Redneck on there one night.

I'm sorry to disappoint you. UCB "won" that fight when he called me 'big boy' and told me to keep fighting the good fight. Slam dunk. Game over. I lose.
