A grittier Paul Ranheim perhaps? Ranheim was an excellent 2 way player for a while but wasn't very physical. If we ended up with that in a late 1st round pick I would be satisfied.

I was actually being serious with my Gary Roberts comparison. Roberts is a winger that wasn't particularly over-sized and imposing, but was immensely gritty, great hockey sense and was very offensive.

I am not saying that Poirier is the next Roberts, but that it is probably the closest comparison style-wise in looking back at Flames' alumni.

^Agreed, so was I. His straight line speed reminds me of Marian Gaborik, not necessarily today but in the way he played and generated offense in Minnesota.

Sorry guys, couldn't make game 1 as I'm in the doghouse at home. 2 unused tickets remain at will call.

Why you should be listening online, from the Cape Breton Eagles official twitter:

Alas no relation there. If there was maybe he'd cheer for a better NHL team.

I'll see if I can get him to do a small wrote up on Poirer after game 2 (he'll need to do something on the plane).

I didn't get the chance to listen to the game last night, but Poirier picked upa. Goal in their 7-2 routing of Cape Breton.

Edit: just realizing now the Eagles official twitter spelled Pat's name wrong, he's an Mc not a Mac.

I'm just picturing him killing penalties with Paul Byron.

So long as he's not taking them with Glencross.

Looks like Poirier with a hat-trick in an 8-2 win

Horse####

He needs to score hat tricks in losses. It's better for my team and Abbotsford! C'mon!

That is tough. I thought just being a Flames fan is being of two minds is bad enough. I want them to win but than again I don't.

Poirier will be in the Flaming C soon enough! It sounds like another year or junior would be pointless for his development. He's a monster!

Anyone know what his updated weight is? I know when drafted he was around 183lbs.. I'm sure he's added some muscle this year!?

Not sure if a fata but here's an article talking about his wanting to impress in the playoffs and come to camp in great shape.

Quote:
"You always want to see how guys can elevate their game," said Craig Conroy, who serves as a special assistant to the general manager. "He's having an unbelievable season with goals, assists, he's putting up [penalty minutes], he's playing physical, he's fighting. He's doing everything you could ask.
"You'd love to have him come in and continue that and even raise his level come playoffs. It's always a challenge but we have nothing but good things to say. He's had an unbelievable year, and the way he's progressed and what we expect out of him, he's right there. It's nice when you have a guy that's doing so well."
Quote:
"There are opportunities when you're in a rebuild stage like we are," Conroy said. "Don't come in with an attitude that you're going to defer to these veterans. Come in and take a spot. I think that's kind of his attitude, talking to him and seeing how he's playing this year. He's trying to show us he's doing everything he can do here and that he's ready to make the jump."
Poirier plans on doing everything he can to show he belongs.
"I think when I see that and I know the Flames have confidence in their young guys that are going to come in the next few years, that's a big thing," he said. "I'm going to train hard to arrive there in shape and give my best to make the team next year for sure."
