Default Flames Assign Ortio Back to Abby

As per Hartley on the live post game stream, he will be going back tomorrow. Kinda surprising, but Abby is gearing towards the playoffs.

Not really surprising. If Ramo is back, Mac can ride the bench in Calgary and Ortio can get all the starts for the Heat.

This will be good for both Ramo and Ortio

Hartley seemed to indicate that this was more CBA related than anything else.

Regardless, still for the best for him in the long run.

Kind of sucks for him as he's played well (other than tonight) but with Ramo ready to go it's good for him to play and Abby needs him.

Wish he didn't get lit up and yanked like that before being sent down. It's for the good of his development but would have given him a lot of confidence heading back to Abbotsford.

Well, regardless, Abby is slowly acquiring all their talent back. They're going to need it to go deep into the playoffs.

Fans should see a swing of more wins than losses coming to the Heat down the stretch.

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions

Hartley says Ortio had to return to Abby. Joni replaced injured Ramo. CBA mandates Ortio's return.

Major Audition time for Ramo I think. Ortio had a great showing IMO during his cup of joe with the Flames.
How Ramo fares for the rest of the season will dictate the moves Burke makes before the draft. Cam Ward is out there on the trade block.

Good for everyone. Ortio has been good considering but he does need to work on a few aspects of his game. I'm sure the Heat won't complain one bit either.

@Fan960Steinberg: So, just to reiterate, Ortio had to go down. Not a performance based thing, I think they would have kept him otherwise. #Flames

From twitter it sounds like Ortio found out about this before the game. Could explain his game tonight.

Probably not. Unfortunate that it came on the heels of his worst performance to date. Given that it was CBA related I'd assume Ortio knew before the game that he'd be on his way back tomorrow.

Odd because I could have sworn Burke said Ortio was going to stay up after Ramo was back?

Can they not keep him up and use one of their 4 call-ups?

Ortio took advantage of the ice time given and gave a good accounting of his efforts and skill level. There is no shame in him going back to Abby. The upcoming playoffs will be valuable experience for Ortio.

I don't know if they showed it on tv but after being pulled hartley went down and had a quick chat with Ortio. Said something and gave him a pat. Don't see that very often when a goalie is pulled. Always helping out the kids. It was good to see.

It is going to be Ramo and Ortio next season I think. Ortio showed enough how capable he is to play in the NHL. I don't mind this move since both Ortio and Ramo will be getting more games to play in the duration of both AHL+playoff for Ortio and NHL for Ramo.

No thanks to Cam Ward. We are still in a rebuild and I think our young goaltenders are progressing really well.
