Slightly off topic, but keeping with the "thanks" theme...

Why are there some posts I cannot thank?
Is there a time limit to get them in?
Example: If I go to this thread: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?p=4619574 I can't thank any of the first 14 posts.

Yeah I think there's a time limit to keep use of thanks current.

Yes, when? I'd like to compare what I had before to what I have now and bask in the acceptance of my peers.

I'm actually really glad I'm not the only one that misses the thanks stats. I considered it my dark little secret how much I enjoyed looking at it.

Not sure if the new forum software has that particular views of thanks stats, so maybe never, but at the very least not until we upgrade.

I miss thanks because I used it as a way to keep track of posts I liked (sometimes with links/pics/videos that I wanted to look at again later- now I can't do this).

Any tips how to work-around? Or are we getting thanks stats back??

A work-around could be to subscribe to the thread, then it would show up in your thread subscriptions.

That does not give me the warm and fuzzy feeling I get from counting all the adulation thrown at me.

Seek elsewhere for validation, you must.

when we finally do get Thanks stats back it's gonna take us all at least a couple of days to catch up on checking how awesome we are. even if the search function is optimized we'll still probably break it by sheer volume of usage.

I think if you're not going to have the stats for it the forum should probably drop it altogether.

All in All I think it's contributed to less discussion and more one-liners and derailment.

I think people forget what some posts were like prior to "thanks". You'd have half a dozen "I agree" or "good post" etc etc. Thanks just made it easier and cut down on those types of posts.

Hell now what's really annoying is when someone runs out of thanks, which I've been guilty of too, is quoting the post and simple saying "Out of thanks!" to acknowledge a good post. The thanks button eliminates half a page of useless posts.

That's a good point and a lot of how I use 'thanks'.

However, I think it's more participatory to maybe try to come up with something that is more than "yes I agree", to grow the discussion rather than stating your allegiance.

I think you're projecting the way you use thanks onto others. I thanked a couple posts by posters I can't stand the other day.

Besides just saying get rid of them, any ideas?

I am all for getting rid of thanks altogether. Since thanks was introduced everyone just tries to be a comedian and PGTs are essentially unreadable because there is no discussion, people only post animated GIFs.

There were too many "I agree" type posts, but there are still too many posts where people post things just to post. Go into any recent signing thread and you will have to scroll through a couple pages of people posting "Great signing" "Wow good signing" etc.
CP needs to do the anti-twitter and impose a minimum character count.
