I would love to get 12 sick days and a "bunch" o flex days needed. Not only that but carried over sick days. Living the life.

Okay, I'll stop going off topic after this, but the "I haven't taken a sick day in x years" guys at work are just as the bad the constantly off sick guys.
They're always so vocal about it, too. They have to bring it up every time sick days come up.

An "interm" Premier will be sworn in. Rumour is it'll be Hancock. She apparently had a 5 hour meeting with him today, which I imagine is to transition over government affairs.
As per their constitution, the PCs have to have a leadership race that is concluded within 6 months from the day the leader steps down - which is this Sunday. (So the race will be over by the end of August)
Once the new Party leader is selected we'll have a new Premier and then all bets are off as to when the next election is. Smart money is that the next provincial election will be sometime in 2016 to A) Give the new leader time to carve out a name and direction B) for the PCs to refill their warchest for what will be an expensive and gritty election.

When I worked for Safeway sick days were abused all the time. Got a rare weekend off? Time to use a suck day to make it a long weekend was the response. If you didn't use them they accumulated and were paid out when you quit. That's why your groceries cost so much.

Two wrongs don't make it right. I don't understand why anyone would be proud of abusing sick days

I think it has to be in 2016 based on the legislation from 2011? I'm pretty sure there is a set range of dates for the next election to be held.

It's the bragging part, Rerun. Bragging is annoying. Didn't think I'd have to spell that one out, but yet here we are.

I just don't see them doing much better. Corporatejay summed up my thoughts and the point exactly. They have had no concrete plans to help the economy or truly cut spending at any meaningful level, just throwing around the usual buzz phrases about responsible goverment and eliminating waste. In fact their budget platform last election was truly scary. Pie in the sky revenue predictions coupled with extra promises and a balanced budget. Jesus walking on water would have been an opening act to that if they pulled it off.
I guess I'm not against a WRP government next time around, I do believe in turning over governments regularly and we are far overdue. I am just amazed at all the people who believe the slogans and don't look deeper, cause the WRP has literally offered nothing of substance yet.
Add that to their disturbing social roots (which maybe they've cleaned up, we'll see), and I really dont get the appeal.
I wish we had a viable third option, but I've been told that's insane...

Psssst. He's on your side. That was the point of his post. It was in jest.

The other question is does Reford stay on as a back bencher MLA or does she leave the party.

I got to see how this woman operates up close and personal during the flood. While our community was asking the gov't for clarity, and getting muted answers, Allison was busy firing emails to Elbow Park telling them they and their school would be taken care of (you can see that email in the flood thread). Luckily we had someone know someone in Elbow Park or we wouldn't have known much during those first confusing days.
She maybe a "good person" as Nenshi said today, but she looks out for herself and her backers. I saw that first hand, in Elbow Park, where I live and Dion's stories in High River. The DRP and Tervita was no surprise, especially after her other contract fiasco with her ex-husband. This woman, for a lawyer, should know better (and I bet she does, but feels its hers to take).
So ya, today is a sad day, I agree. I just can't figure out if it is because Alberta keeps getting these Bozos, or that we probably will have to vote them in again cause the competition is so weak.
At least we managed to flush her that fast, and maybe get someone better that at least gives me hope. Oh and Allison you can take that idiot Doug "Flood victims better not think of profiting on DRP" Griffiths with you too.
|
Griffiths held a town hall meetings with residents in High River last spring. His back would go up when residents started asking questions and then came his sarcastic and condesending remarks. IIRC it wasn't long after that when he had his cabinet position changed.

Yup, it has to by 2016. I'm not sure exactly when.

Plus from what I've heard and gather she's actually well like within the riding of Elbow/Mount Royal.

So, as her final act in government she will avoid the legislature while collecting a pay check for the next two years before stepping down and cashing a large severance cheque.
It seems fitting.
On a side note, Stephan Dion is still a sitting MP and even successfully ran for re-election in 2011.

Between her spending us billions into debt and collecting an empty paycheck, the later looks much more palatable.

Every staff member gets 15 paid sick days a year, plus 5 paid "family" days per year, plus 1 paid flex day per year, plus 1 paid "volunteer" day per year. And then of course there are the 15 paid vacation days per year that everyone starts out at and this increases to 20 days after 8 years.
Oh.. by the way, you can carry over your sick days from year to year if you don't use them.
Now I know this is an example of a federal employee, however I suspect there isn't much difference between her and a provincial employee.
|
You should tell your wife to quit if misusing public money bothers you so much.
