Well I guess Sunnyside got screwed by voting Liberal. We are in the same boat. DRP is a joke, we were lucky and got insurance to rightfully pay for my SBU claim. Otherwise from what I was seeing we maybe would have got a few grand on a $100K basement.

I got to see how this woman operates up close and personal during the flood. While our community was asking the gov't for clarity, and getting muted answers, Allison was busy firing emails to Elbow Park telling them they and their school would be taken care of (you can see that email in the flood thread). Luckily we had someone know someone in Elbow Park or we wouldn't have known much during those first confusing days.

She maybe a "good person" as Nenshi said today, but she looks out for herself and her backers. I saw that first hand, in Elbow Park, where I live and Dion's stories in High River. The DRP and Tervita was no surprise, especially after her other contract fiasco with her ex-husband. This woman, for a lawyer, should know better (and I bet she does, but feels its hers to take).

So ya, today is a sad day, I agree. I just can't figure out if it is because Alberta keeps getting these Bozos, or that we probably will have to vote them in again cause the competition is so weak.

At least we managed to flush her that fast, and maybe get someone better that at least gives me hope. Oh and Allison you can take that idiot Doug "Flood victims better not think of profiting on DRP" Griffiths with you too.

Lol, this first thing you said, 'trim the fat' was the exact example of meaningless buzz phrase corporatejay was pointing out. And half a million in salary increases, the one specific you mentioned is nothing.

Not to mention, parties in waiting always make that promise (to roll back previous party increases) and I cannot think of a time when it's happened in my lifetime.

Lol 'what does cut spending mean?'

'It means trim the fat.'

Awesome. Thanks for proving his point anyway.

You need to go back a few pages and read my posts.

Again, overstaffing is often a problem which is why you need constant audits to make sure employees are productive.

But 15 sick days per year isn't that bad. We get as many as we want and most people are with 10-12. So 15 isn't that crazy.

I have a family member who worked for the feds for 30+ years, everything rerun posted regarding time off is pretty accurate from what I saw. I'd say less than 50% of their workweek was a full 5 days.

and a lot of places get few sick days, but a bunch of "flex" days. 20 in total is not outrageous at all.

I personally disagree with the idea of sick days being carried over. That isn't the purpose of a sick day to begin with.

IMO, people should have 2 sick days per month. If they don't use it they turn into flex days for the rest of the year. Start of the year you start over.

EDIT: Where I work a flex day is usually working half a day and going to appointments the rest of the day. Or taking a Friday off early. Usually you still work a few hours though.

The stupid thing about the sick days is that most government workers don't have Short Term Disability coverage. You have to carry the days over in case of an emergency. Cut the sick days and give them STD coverage like every other employer.

I know they're unionized but you shouldn't be "entitled" a specific number of sick days (nor get to roll them over). If you're sick you can take the day off. If you're not sick you should be at work. If you give somebody 15 sick days a funny thing happens, they use all of them.

Average sick days in Canada is around 7. The only reason they need 15 is because they don't have short term disability coverage.

Fine then. Give them STD and find a way to keep them at work a lot more.

I actually find it strange that people need 15 sick days per year. I take 2 days for my normal season changing head cold, and 2 days for my yearly flu. Other than that I just use flex days.

No, I really dont.

Anyway, to be honest, I don't mind this. Alisons time was up, I haven't agreed with much she or her party has done in a long while. And I doubt WRP can or will do much worse. I just don't see them doing much better. Corporatejay summed up my thoughts and the point exactly. They have had no concrete plans to help the economy or truly cut spending at any meaningful level, just throwing around the usual buzz phrases about responsible goverment and eliminating waste. In fact their budget platform last election was truly scary. Pie in the sky revenue predictions coupled with extra promises and a balanced budget. Jesus walking on water would have been an opening act to that if they pulled it off.

I guess I'm not against a WRP government next time around, I do believe in turning over governments regularly and we are far overdue. I am just amazed at all the people who believe the slogans and don't look deeper, cause the WRP has literally offered nothing of substance yet.

Add that to their disturbing social roots (which maybe they've cleaned up, we'll see), and I really dont get the appeal.

I wish we had a viable third option, but I've been told that's insane...

From your posts, you seem to stay very healthy, though. So you're likely not the norm.

Completely agree. It's too much and it's abnormal to be sick 15 days in a year.

ok guys, enough about your sick days.

What happens from here with her resignation? Who is the current head of government and what does this mean for the party going forward in the immediate future?

Yeah, probably true as well.

I honestly don't have a problem with the 10-15 sick days, but I can see how they get abused by some.

Usually what happens in these situations is that the party names an interim leader until they can have a leadership campaign and convention. That will probably happen about 6-12 months from now.
