Default Rich Peverley Collapses on Bench

Tue 7:00 am: @DallasStars: There are no new updates on Rich Peverley as of this morning. We'll update you as soon as we get new information.

Quote:
Once in the hallway behind the Dallas bench, medical personnel provided Peverley with oxygen, administered an IV, performed chest compressions and defibrillated him, restoring a rhythm to his heart on the first attempt, according to Dr. Gil Salazar, part of the emergency medicine team at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Salazar, who was part of the team rendering aid to Peverley, called the success on the first attempt "reassuring."

"What I know so far is he slumped on the bench. He was brought back to the hallway for treatment, where we treated him for a cardiac event, successfully treated with standard therapy. As soon as we treated him, he regained consciousness," Salazar said. "He was alert and awake talking to us after the event and quickly transported to the hospital. At this point, I was able to talk to him in the back of the ambulance, and he was able to tell me where he was and he actually wanted to get back in the game."
NHL.com story

Mon 7:25 pm: @BlueJacketsNHL: #CBJ president of hockey operations John Davidson just told @FOXSportsOH that tonight’s game has been cancelled.

Mon 7:13 pm: Dallas PA announcer just told crowd that Peverley is conscious headed to hospital.

Was diagnosed with a heart condition earlier in the year (irregular heartbeat)

Apparently Ruff came out and said he is going to be okay.

Daren Millard ‏@darenmillard 2m
Good news. Lindy Ruff comes out of the hall way and says Rich Peverley is going to be ok

Crazy, the game was suspended for a bit. Not sure if it's back, but pray that Peverley is okay.

The broadcast of that game right now merely underscores the seriousness of what is going on. The Stars announcers are completely silent. They recapped what happened, and now all you can hear is the concerned buzz from the crowd.

It is scary for fans of all ages seeing this happen. I hope the spectators do not pass out or start puking as has happened in other serious medical issues at sporting events.

That is pretty quick to say he'll be okay no? Hope so but seems like only about 5 minutes passed until they said he will be ok. Hardly seems like enough time for sometone to thoroughly look at him.

reminds me of Fabrice Muamba

for anyone who doesn't know, went in to Cardiac arrest during a soccer game in London

luckily there was a cardiologist attending the game as a fan who ran on to the field right away and helped save his life

game was abandoned and Muamba's team's next game 3 days later was called off too
