O boy ! One of my friend got an email in 2011 from his buddy email id that he is stuck in some foreign country and need some cash to pay hotel money..He ended up sending 1000$.

After that he got an email from buddy that email is hacked ..when he told us about this, we end up laughing our butt off.

Next day,We went cops and they couldn't stop laughing. IP address was traced to some where in kenya..They filed the report and told us to forget 1000$.

Story doesnot end here. After a week he got another email saying that they were able to catch the person who scammed him and to provide bank account details to transfer the money back.

Also there was pic of guy as a soldier at the bottom of the message.

Mine was much better and more elaborate.

I've had a watch for sale listed on Kijiji and the offer I've got was to help the brethren make it "an anonymous gift for our beloved pastor that oversees an orphan mission in Equador". All I had to do was give them my PayPal info and make a $1 transfer... I actually did text them to "go f... themselves" and got a reply back: "So, dear sir, are you still interested in this sale?". I thought the "dear sir" thing was cute.

I decided to do the honorable thing and called Panama City Police. Turns out after explaining what happened to 3 people it is actually a county problem. I am now waiting for a call back from the county for more information

It's also possible that isn't the scammers house. Could be sending it to their grandmothers or something.

I had an email from a cousin who was in trouble in a Middle Eastern Jail and needed money transfered.


I sent back an email kindly hoping that he enjoyed the sodomy and subpar diet, because fraudsters should be hung.

Chances of the name matching a known criminal with previous fraud charges? I doubt there are that many people with same name and fraud history in the greater Panama City area

Huh? I wasn't saying that....I've heard of scammers giving a relatives address in an ill-thought out attempt to avoid shipped items being traced back to them. That's all.

Be careful. It's not as likely if this is an American scam, but a lot of scam operations (especially the Nigerian ones, etc.) are run by the mob and those aren't the kind of people you want to piss off, especially if they know your real name from your email already.

I just read a fiction book of the same name - 419 by Will Ferguson - about the 419 scam. It was quite interesting - more from the perspective of how the whole thing works/plays out. The book is set in Calgary, at the start.

That is what came to my mind as well once I received the address. Still no word from the Police department I am starting to think it is a lost cause
