Looking at Gatineau's playoff chances. They should win round 1 with their firepower. However, unless there are three upsets in the first round they will end up playing either (1) Baie Comeau, (2) Halifax, or (3) Blainville-Boisbriand. So I don't see them getting past round 2.
I do believe he can go to the AHL once Gatineau is done.
Poirier could go into Beast Mode and take Gatineau through a few rounds...in Junior you never know.
He's 19 and needs to play - also, as good as he has been, he is not 'above' the AHL. It is pretty good hockey and is good enough for Gaudreau, Baertschi, Granlund and Reinhart.
Also. why not give him the playoff experience?
He's already played a full season. He doesn't need to play any more than he has already. If he had ever played down there then sure send him down, but no need to send a guy down who's never actually played for the team.
I can't ever recall a team doing this... having a guy up in the NHL all year and then sending him down to the AHL for the playoffs. Nashville or Florida aren't going to send down Jones or Barkov.

Well he's not eligible, so it's a moot point

Monahan was not one of the "paper" transactions yesterday, so he was not in the AHL at the deadline. This means he can't be loaned to the Heat for the rest of the year, even after the 67's season ends.
Perhaps he'll play in the World Championships then.

Isn't Klimchuck too young to play in the A next year and therefore not be able to join te Heat? He is still WJ eligible next year and I think he goes back to the dub for one more season

He would be eligible to paly for the Heat this spring, after his team is done
Then next season, it's back to the WHL

Yeah, I figured he'd be a strong candidate for the World Championship team. They have taken a few as-yet-undrafted 17 and 18 year olds before (Ryan Murray recently), as well as plenty of other players fresh off their rookie NHL seasons.
The pool might also be depleted by some of the players that played in the Olympics not wanting to go this year due to the increased intensity and travel this season. The World Championship is in Belarus.
As for the topic of the thread, the Heat look to have a formidable lineup for their playoff run, even without Monahan.
It will be good for a lot of the prospects to be playing meaninful hockey in April and May. It will do guys like Knight, Reinhart, Granlund, Wotherspoon, etc. a world of good and probably give them an added edge coming into camp next year.

The rosters that some of you have posted look ideal and I think it's what every Flames fan would like to see.
The reality is, Gaudreau would most likely be mandated to play, but nobody else. What that means is Arnold, Agostino, Poirier, Kulak, etc. would be playoff depth and practice guys. Ward's unlikely to take a guy like, say, Poirier and insert him into the lineup right away before someone who has worked his ass off in the AHL all year. Not only that, but it'd be incredibly unfair to take one of the current guys out of the lineup and replace him with a junior/college guy.
But again, there's no way the Flames' management doesn't mandate Gaudreau to play. The rest of the guys will still get an ample amount of experience just being in the AHL around professional players and coaches as well as running through an AHL practice.

Something tells me Poirier will be in a similar boat as Gaudreau.. I think he will end up playing. I agree with the rest of the group however.

I would think the college guys are more developed and thus more ready to step in right away. Agostino, Arnold and Gaudreau would have the edge on their CHL counterparts. Unlikely Ward wouldn't use them IMO. Poirier may get some games if his team finishes early enough as well.
Isn't the Heat depth an issue? Now you think they should hold out reinforcements?
