Wahl in 2008 was our own 2nd, BUT we only had it because after we traded it to LA (Presumably in the Conroy deal) we somehow got it back (Cammalleri?).
Nothing in 2009, but that's understandable since we loaded up and went all in. Alas, it didn't pan out.
2010, we had no 2nd because if I'm remembering correctly, we had the first of two ridiculous deals with Toronto; we paid them a 2nd to take Wayne Primeau off our hands.
2011, we had Granlund and Wotherspoon with the NYR 2nds, though Chicago got to take Brandon Saad with what should have been our 43rd overall.
2012, the Jankowski draft, trade down with Buffalo, get back a 2nd that was actually 2 spots better than the blood money we gave them for Kotalik. While we would draft Sieloff, Buffalo took Jake McCabe. Good? Bad? Who cares.
Before we get to 2013, I think Jay Feaster actually thought he'd endear himself to the ownership by being the guy who valued their money more than the results. There's absolutely no reason that salary retention shouldn't have been on the table last year with Bouw, and there's no reason to give up Jake McCabe to get rid of 3 million dollars worth of Kotalik when he's just going to go play in Europe. Murray wasn't cheap then, he's not cheap now, but clearly Jay Feaster figured he could save some money and justify keeping himself around the Saddledome. What a hack.
2013, once again no 2nd rounder of our own, gone to Montreal in the Cammalleri/Ramo deal. Habs pick Fucale.
So let's look at the pieces we could've had, had we simply held onto our goddamn 2nds going back a mere three years:
2011: Brandon Saad.
2012: Jake McCabe.
2013: Zach Fucale
A top six forward, a projected top 4 D and a projected #1 goalie. Add those three guys to our prospect pool and this is a top 10 farm system.
