I thought it was sarcastic personally, but now I am not sure.

This forum would move much smoother if everyone just agreed with me.

For fun, from Joe Meloni a college hockey writer of some capacity:
"I guess everyone figured this. But all signs point to Johnny Gaudreau signing in Calgary as soon as BC's season is over."

he's either the senior writer or one of the editors for college hockey news. IMO when it comes to him, there are few as good. Especially when it relates to hockey east as he is from Boston I do believe

Johnny Hockey comes in at #14 in the top-100 NCAA prospects. That's behind
1. Kevin Hayes (CHI)
2. Nic Kerdiles (ANA)
3. Mario Lucia (MIN)
4. Gustav Olofsson (MIN)
5. Jordan Schmaltz (STL)
6. Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI)
7. Jake McCabe (BUF)
8. Devin Shore (DAL)
9. Josh Archibald (PIT)
10. JT Compher (BUF)
11. Thatcher Demko ('14 draft Eligible)
12. Jon Gillies (CGY)
13. Jimmy Vesey (NAS)

Quote:
Johnny Gaudreau will win the Hobey Baker Award this season for the top college hockey player in the country. A supremely skilled and intelligent forward, Gaudreau is currently riding a 29-game point streak, and is scoring at unholy clips. But the 5-foot-7 forward will constantly be questioned for his size when the conversation shifts to his NHL prospects, despite his supreme hockey IQ and creativity. He’s an inch shorter than Martin St. Louis, and is exceptional at creating chances for himself or a teammate.

Weird list there. Either you think Gaudreau won't make it because of his size and you put him way off the list, or you think he will and you obviously put him #1. They're trying to play both sides here. If you think size won't be an issue he's easily #1.

Hayes has his work cut out for him to make that Hawks lineup. A lot of stiff competition ahead of him and minutes are hard to come by. Might need to get 'fortunate' with an injury situation to show what he can do.. will be interesting to watch.

I like JG's situation much better. He will have every chance to prove he belongs in the pros.

Kevin Hayes:
Freshman year = 0.45 PPG
Sophomore year = 0.64 PPG
Junior year = 0.93 PPG
Senior year (playing on a line with Gaudreau) = 1.50 PPG

Even more strange than Hayes being #1 and Gaudreau being #14 is that Bill Arnold is way down at #50 (Jankowski is #33). Arnold has had better stats than Hayes every season prior to this one (and has only been on the same line as Gaudreau since last March, so his stats weren't inflated because of Johnny). Even this year, Arnold is only slightly behind Hayes at 1.29 PPG.

Gaudreau won't be scoring at 2PPG clip in the NHL, but he will be a PPG player. I firmly believe that. If you've seen him play live, you understand why I feel that way.

Yeah, he did. The way he generated something each time he touched the puck was exciting. The way he moves on the ice, ever-so-gracefully, darting around people like they are standing still, it was uncanny. He also has crazy peripheral vision, hitting guys that most players wouldn't even see with pinpoint passes.

Yeah Johnny, despite his size, being out of the top 5 NHL prospects PERIOD, not just NCAA is pretty ridiculous. One of the most prolific NCAA scorers ever and is the #15 college prospect. I don't even understand.

Some people just can't get past his size.

When wathcing these highlights and scrums after goals, he really doesn't look much smaller than St. Louis or Kane compared to his peers. I'm pretty sure Byron is smaller than him with a much more limited skillset and he does ok. Yeah he's small, but I really think the only reason its a story moreso than others that are small is BECAUSE he's so good despite his size.

Yeah, Byron seems to be doing just fine in the NHL. He's only 5'7", 153 lbs.

Gaudreau is similar in size. He's listed anywhere from 5'6" (NHL Forecaster) to 5'9" (flames.nhl.com).

It's been proven before that small guys with skill can find success in the NHL; this is probably even moreso true in this day and age, where speed and skill are more the focus versus brawn and physicality (also important, but the new rules in the last ten years really opened up the game to smaller players).

I had no idea that Byron and Gaudreau were that close in size, very interesting.

Pretty excited to see him play, I imagine it will go something like this:

HEY JOHNY!!! NOW DO YA CARE?!??

While the size comparison is fair, I don't think Gaudreau's as fast or as tenacious along the boards as Byron. They are very different types of player. Gaudreau is pure skill from what I've seen of him.

Others who have watched him more than I might be able to speak more to that than I, though.
