We're saying the same thing. I mean "high" as in high-numbered pick. Like 50-something overall.
Which is not a 3rd rounder, so we need to quit saying a late second is like an early third. It is what it is, a late 2nd round pick.
Also, isn't this the best return for a goalie not named Ryan Miller*?
*Said without reviewing all goalie returns this year.
Given todays market, it's a decent return for Stempniak. Seemed like a decent guy, hope he plays well in Pittsburgh. I wouldn't be surprised if he fits better there than Iginla did last year, he's the type who can get hot and start filling the net.
I always think how years ago Anaheim traded a 5th for Steve Thomas and no one batted an eye at that deal. Thomas ended up scoring some key goals for the Ducks in their cup run.

A 3rd for a guy that hasn't played in over a week is steal like the Berra trade. Burke did well with what we had Im not up set at the fact Butler never got moved it just came down to lack of movement of D this trade deadline.
Year of the Goalie.

Selling out in back-to-back years (and neutering back-to-back drafts) is a tough pill to swallow. Jokinen was their best pick up last year and didn't cost them what Iginla or Morrow did. I think this year's trades mirror more of that style (Jokinen) trade and will likely have a better payoff (rather than having a new top end guy try to get accustom to playing on the top line and vice versa.
Surprised that Goc got a better return than Stempniak.
Tallon really did well this deadline.
Stempniak has had a worse season than Cammalleri so I'm pretty happy with the 3rd round pick as I figured him to be in the 3rd/4th round pick range. Probably could have fetched more if he played this season like he did last season but who knows if the Penguins were willing to relinquish more than a 3rd round pick on anyone today as teams were tight with the purse strings.

I'm very happy with a 3rd as well.
Just surprised, in relation to Goc, it wasn't more.
A 3rd for Stemps is a great return for guy that really has been un-noticable in 80% of the games this season and a noticeable contributor for the other 20%.
Going back to Oct we have heard he has been a good locker room guy, but a 3rd is perfect.
Good luck to stempniak... He should do well in Pittsburgh and wi probably get a good look on crosby's wing. He might be a good fit if he can get in a roll.

Center > wing I suppose.
All in all good return on Lee too bad he wasn't playing better I always envisioned him getting us a 2nd but certainly not the way he played this season

I think this years market was very different than previous years... Vanek didn't even bring in a 1st round pick. While stempniak did not have a very good year, his value along with all the other players was a lot lower this trade deadline.
Maybe it's just me but the whole trading for a player then trying to flip him is a bad idea. The returns for both Moulson and Vanek were very sub par with the NYI becoming the bigger of the butt end of a joke for doing so.
