Mad disrespect for St. Louis.

The best thing about this trade is knowing that the Rangers will indeed not get McDavid.

So Tampa having Drouin, Stamkos AND McDavid is any better?

St. Louis >> Callahan

Plus St. Louis is signed for one more year and Callahan is a UFA looking for a payday.

Without St. Louis, Tampa is not a lock to make the playoffs.

The odds are that the players picked with a (likely) mid to late 1st and a 2nd round pick are unlikely to be impact players in the NHL, if they even make it.

I don't see this as a slam dunk for Tampa

Yzerman confirms in #TBLightning release that St. Louis asked for a trade. Says team "honored his request."

MSL will now be a 40-50 point winger starting next season. The NYR, where superstar hockey players careers go to die.

Both teams are teams that I hate and I hope it backfires on both. But really I think Tampa comes out on top. Very very nice return for a 38yr old star who may very well decline sharply in NY. Art Ross or not, NY is where stars go to fizzle. It's happened time and time again. I don't see why this would be any different. It's just something in the water.

Yzerman gets another ticket in the Mcdavid sweepstakes and offloads a player who sulked after all the team Canada fiasco. Good riddance. I wish more and more that Yzerman would have become the Flames' GM. He's pulled off some spectacular moves during his time there.

It sure seems to be that way as Nash and Richards have both looked like shells of their former selves in NY and you have the Drury, Gomez, Redden, etc. that all nosedived there.

Great trade for the Lightning. Even in a tough situation Yzerman managed to get full value for an aging star.

I think this is the best 'forced a GM's hand' return I've ever seen.

The Rangers are 1 point away from being outside of the playoffs. Neither of these teams should be viewed as a legitimate threat to win it all. Difference is Tampa recognizes that and acquired future assets. The Rangers decided to go all in. It's a very big risk for them, one that carries the risk of disaster status if they make the ECF and don't win it all.

Good trade if the Callahan fits in with the lightning i think he will lower his demands he will make a lot more with the low taxes in florida anyways. Hopefully he comes down on the term i doubt it though he knows someon will give it to him.

Yzerman's presser right now ... he seems really pissed about the MSL situation. There must have been a lot of bad blood. Chooses his words VERY carefully and is clearly not comfortable discussing it at length. Says him, coach Cooper and ownership tried to convince him to stay "more than once in the past". Says "you have to ask Marty that" numerous times.

Wow. You can tell Yzerman is livid with St. Louis in this press conference.
