Bump!
Here's the base design that's been selected for the Elbow River bridges. Apparently a bunch of people in the last survey said they wanted the new bridges to look like the old bridges, so this is what we got.
(Once again, we should've sole-sourced to Calavatra for something more inspired.)

You can vote on the colour (white, green or grayish green) and a few other things here.

Which are your choices, CP?

I like that design, its not simplistic, and I have always been a sucker for a suspension bridge

That bridge doesn't encourage pedestrian activity whatsoever.
EDIT: Instead of the wooden pillars, make it the Two Towers. Then we got something.

Already tweeted about it, where is our Calatrava option? Or at the very least build a smaller version of the epic bridge that was designed on here.

It's fine. Relatively cheap and they aren't key infrastructure bridges so no need to really go nuts with them. Hopefully the improved designs will withstand similar flooding.
I do wish they mandated that all pedestrian bridges henceforth should be painted calgary red. It's a small thing, but I get annoyed by the mishmash of colours used on pedestrian bridges in this city. Red is nice and doesn't look awful once it starts showing rust. Light greens and greys look awful when they inevitably fade and rust.
Plus, it could be our thing!

Since we already have one Calatrava bridge. Are we allowed to copy the design and maybe make it blue or something instead? It shouldn't be that hard.

Red or orange stand out in all seasons. Green disappears in the summer, white disappears in the winter.

I don't see why they wouldn't make the bridges wider to allow cyclists to cross safely. These are used by cyclists all the time. Many for their commutes, not leisure weekend rides. It doesn't make sense to spend money to replace these and then tell cyclists rushing to work that they have to dismount.

I'm not sure what the budget is (it is for 3 bridges), but if someone does know please represent it as a percentage of Peace bridge. It's how I like all my infrastructure costs to be indicated.

Why didn't these go to a design competition so Canadian children would have been able to put their stamp on our city!?
