Monahan has been living with his mom since he was told he was going to be on the team fulltime.

I thought he was supposed to live with a billet family?

The team had former Flames centre and current Calgary Hitmen assistant coach Joel Otto lined up to be his billet when instead Monahan’s mom decided to move out to Calgary.

I can see the Coyotes giving up Gormley, Rundblad, or our 1st rounder for Hudler.

I played poker with Monahan last night and he's bought a condo in the beltline. Nice kid...and for those following possible draftpicks, he thinks Sam Bennett is awesome.

Coyotes are already at the max for their internal budget. this doesn't help them at all in that regard.

AHL rookie of the year last year and as many points in the NHL as Monahan has in a couple fewer games... granted he's 2 years older but probably just as valuable to the Kings as we think Monahan is to the Flames.

To the first bold: no
To the second bold: no
There is a HUGE difference between putting up those points as a 19 year old and putting them up as a 21 year old with a full season and a half of AHL experience. I get your post, and I doubt the Kings are willing to move him, but those are not the same things.

I'm not sure if the first bolded no is agreeing or disagreeing with me. If it's disagreeing and you think two vets both being north of 30 and one being a straight up rental would pry Toffoli from the Kings... well then we'll agree to disagree on that.
To the second no, fair enough, I didn't phrase it all that well and my original post reads like I'm saying a 19 year old putting up the similar points to a 21 year old are equal in value.
What I was essentially trying to imply was that to the King's staff, Toffoli's perceived value is most likely very comparable to how the Flames value Monahan... they're both top prospects in their respective organizations and both have proven they can play at this level.

Again, I agree that LA would be reluctant to move him.
But Cammalleri is probably worth a 1st and a B prospect. Hudler is probably worth a 1st and a B+ prospect.
So saying that the two of them (who, combined are putting up about 1.3 PPG) aren't worth Toffoli is basically saying:
Toffoli > 2 1sts, + 2 B prospects

How'd you do? I had Bouma. Great guy. Had a blast chatting with Berra later in the night, had him in stitches with my German. Ortio is a very confident/nonchalant guy. I think he'll do well.
Cards did not treat me well...

People always cite Cammalleri's PPG in his defense, but surely the fact that he tends to miss 20-25 games a season decreases his value.

You guys do realize that trading everyone over 25 who plays well will turn the flames into Edmonton right?

The context of this trade speculation is a hockey deal, which I take to mean a swap of assets of comparable value based on the particular needs of a team. I doubt it would involve moving Hudler for picks. I expect whoever came back would be a veteran.
You need to give up quality to get quality. This sort of speculation is far better than the pie-in-the-sky stuff where the Flames exchange two crappy players for one good one.
I like Hudler. But if Burke sees a deal where he can swap Hudler for a player of equal value who addresses deficiencies on the team (size, defense), then I'm okay with that. And that goes for anyone on the roster. If Burke was offered a young power-winger in exchange for Giordano, I hope he would seriously consider the merits of the deal on a hockey basis.

Well that's what you're saying based on your assessment of the return value of Cammalleri and Hudler. I personally disagree with your valuation of Cammalleri, but I'm not going to split hairs over it as there's a lot of variables involved and it's hard to predict the deadline market a day out, let alone a week out.
I'm pretty high on Toffoli, kid was scoring at .75PPG his first 20 NHL games before the Kings entirely forgot how to score... but yes, your suggested return is likely more valuable than a former mid 2nd rounder.

If we're looking into getting the Toffoli kid, it's not happening. LA won't move him at all unless we give our first rounder to them. That actually wouldn't make me mad at all. Maybe we can throw in Cammy and an additoinal prospect for Muzzin?

Hockey trade could be two guys with contracts and the flames take on some salary so the other team could make a trade

Toffoli is easily the most overrated prospect in the league.
Our 1st and Cammy for Toffoli and Muzzin? Terrible trade for the flames

Why is that? I know from our days in the CPHL you were pretty vocal about your disdain for Hudler, but since coming to the Flames, he seems to be a passionate guy that hates losing, a good leader for the kids and appears to keep things light during a year when it could likely be more gloom and doom.
What is it with his character or play that gives you the feeling that he isn't the type of guy the Flames want around for a re-build?
He's not the biggest or most physical, but I wouldn't say he's the kind to bail on a play along the boards in fear and not everyone has to be 6'2, 200+.

One of hudler or cammallari has to go. We have too many small wingers. My preference is to keep hudler.
